my dad built a boat

he bought it as a kit with all the plywood bits (there's a LOT of them) and the plans for about £600 I think, it was some place in the Lake District. I'm not sure if they sell just the plans but I can find out

Could you?

Would be great, have space in a fully kitted out furniture workshop, so making the parts myself would be pretty easy.

That is awesome weepiper, your dad has a lot of skill. It looks really well finished too.

There's a great site here that sells plans and books on building Kayaks. My dad and I were talking about building one but we've yet to move into the next phase i.e. doing something about it.

Might as well go the whole hog and get a sailing dinghy with oarlocks and and outboard. No need for smelly noisy engines when you've got the wind ppowering you for free

yeh, i think sailing is great - i've been before. just not on the River Cam :D

i just want a small pootling boat. i can attach it to my mum's barge and use it for trips down the river to the pub, or to visit people i know who live on boats. :)

Bumping because he wasn't content with it as a canoe, so he spent the winter making it into a sailed trimaran :D

and here it is in action. See me dad, he's ace

The night is black,
And the stars are bright,
And the sea is dark and deep…
But someone I know is safe and snug,
And they’re drifting off to sleep.

Round and round, a little boat, no bigger than your hand,
Out on the ocean, far away from land.
Take the little sail down, light the little light,
This is the way to the garden in the night.
