he bought it as a kit with all the plywood bits (there's a LOT of them) and the plans for about £600 I think, it was some place in the Lake District. I'm not sure if they sell just the plans but I can find out

There's a great site here that sells plans and books on building Kayaks. My dad and I were talking about building one but we've yet to move into the next phase i.e. doing something about it.

Might as well go the whole hog and get a sailing dinghy with oarlocks and and outboard. No need for smelly noisy engines when you've got the wind ppowering you for free

yeh, i think sailing is great - i've been before. just not on the River Cam

i just want a small pootling boat. i can attach it to my mum's barge and use it for trips down the river to the pub, or to visit people i know who live on boats.
