My cat is dying

I feel better for having done something. I gave her a little bit of sugar and she's now lying with her face pressed into the sofa.

I really hope she gets through this.

Thank you everyone, none of my friends are around (housemates are crap) and i feel a lot better for having posted all this up.

Do take her to the vet's - my cat was really dragging his back legs a couple of years ago & I was really, really worried - turned out to be a back problem & he got better with steroids. I don't want to give you false hope, but it may be something quite treatable.

I really hope she's okay or goes peacefully - she is lucky to have found a loving home even if turns out it was only for a short time.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for being here when I really needed you! We took the cat to the vet again this morning and other than hospitalising her and pumping her full of drugs, which she would probably not survive, there really wasn't anything to do. We decided that the best thing to do would be for her not to go on suffering, and she passed away a few hours ago.

It's not so bad at home now, although cleaning her bowls out is a pretty horrible task. I'm jsut pleased she died with us, rather than under a hedge somewhere.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

:( But think - you bought the cat a few extra hours and kindness.

I know, and she won't be the last I'm sure. She was just such a cool little cat: really socialble, never angry.

I'm so pleased we took her in but I'm going to miss her a lot.

Lucky cat to have had your love. Lucky you to have had hers. They have big little hearts, don't they? You must be pretty special yourself to have let her in so quickly and so readily.

Thanks for saying that. I just didn't want her to keep living rough in my garden. Turned out she had no teeth so she wouldn't have been able to eat well living wild. I couldn't imagine life without her at home and I'm just sorry it couldn't have lasted longer.

By the way, you were right. It was diabetes, amongst other things, but really badly. There wasn't much point in treating her.

I'm sorry :(

but like I said last night you gave her somewhere warm and cosy for the last few weeks.

I hope you take some comfort in that.

Ooooooooh; I am sorry I came back to check and found bad news. Poor pussycat and poor you. I think you said in your original post that you were/are having a rough patch. Some people believe that animals come to you when you are having bad time. I think the experience will do something good for you and the cat was very lucky to have been cared for by you - just so. You had a lot of compassion for a creature you didn't even know very well. Good on you!!!!

awww! (just read this now)

You did your best for the kitty and made sure it was looked after in it's last few weeks...

Must be sad tho.... :(

Awwww Winterinmoscow, my heart goes out to you. You did a good thing, try to take comfort in that. The cat spent her last days in a caring environment. My cat died weeks and weeks ago but I still think about it.
Light a candle, have a drink , whatever feels right to you.

Take care

Sorry to hear about the cat dying, losing a pet is pretty grim.

Why don't you go and get yourself a rescue kitten/cat forthwith?

It'll probably make you feel a bit better, as you will have an exciting new pet to occupy your mind. It would not be a replacement for the other, but a new different pet.

Thanks everyone - I keep expecting her just to wander back in here and jump on the table like she owned the place (in 2 weeks she made herself well comfy). it seems very quiet without her.

She was good company as well. I have had a really tough time recently and she just made things that bit easier for me. But I'm trying to look forward, she won't be the last cat in my life.

It sounds silly, I've had pets most of my life, but I never really realised just how important they are, until now.

Seems to me your little cat came into your life just when you needed her. And then she gave you the privilege of taking care of her as she departed this world. (((((cat)))))

We lost our cat a couple of months ago. She had been ill for a while but when my mum died (within a month of being diagnosed with cancer so it was a shock) she was there to comfort me. She hung on until I was strong enough to cope with her death as well.

She won't be the last cat in my life either - but not yet.

As others have said, at least you made her last few days as comfortable as possible, and that will have made a huge difference to her.
