My Bloody Valentine are back

trying to refrain from pissed posting but cant - what an incredible gig...that was like a near death experience...havent felt that way since some hairy moments raving back in the early 90s. For me that finale is as close as to describing musically what death feels like... kept thinking of pirate mc five-0 who used to shout out DETTOL! when a tune was killing it...DETTOL!! Kill all germs dead! Sonic disinfectant :)

dont know if this has been said but i found myself thinking theres a big rave influence in their music and thinking, especially around Loveless (made right in the middle of the dance music explosion) - the visuals, the repetitions, the soundscape, the trip, especially all really comes out on Wonder 2

...nearly recovered!

I couldnt really see from where i was but where was the bass player standing---and who was playing bass? I got the feeling that some tracks had no bass in them at all, but sometimes it was hard to tell one way or another!

Twenty years ago I missed a De La Soul gig cos I'd booked a holiday to Morocco for that date.

Last week, I had to miss the MBV gig, cos I'd booked a holiday to Morocco for that date... I was mighty pissed off this time - not least because I was going with my in-laws, and I cant quite decide if I'm more pissed off or not now. Sounds a cracking gig, but my hearing is fucked enough anyway, and it sounds like it'd be completely gone if I had actually gone to the Apollo (the idea of wearing ear protection being a complete anathema, obviously)

glowing gig reviews on the net always sound better than they really are. I missed out the bit where i poured a £5 pint of cider into my shoe, and how most of the gig i was distracted by cunts checking their emails on their iphones  hope that makes you feel better

still deb goodge - she stands in front of colm's kit - centre stage but not at the front.
she's tiny. if that helps.
there's not a lot to see happening on stage - never has been with them
it's one of the old -school rave type things about them, like DJ's did once upon a time, they disappear behind the visual screens and smoke, looking at them isn't really the point.

but if you're going to, it's all about Belinda's sparkly guitars and that one moment of high drama
when kevin looks over his shoulder and they all crash back in at the end of 'the chord' ;)

i know its a bit of a showstealer and it shouldnt distract from the rest of the set, but when they (we) come out the other side of the chord im not embarrassed to say it brought a tear to my eye (maybe a little embarrassed)...those four seconds when the distortion send fader comes down (or whatever it is that happens) was a truly sublime moment. Oh, and Kevins scream just as it drops in was great too!

If someone else tried to pull this whole thing off it could be a bit gimicky but with them its a logical conclusion... from the opening track its like the foothills to that waiting live volcano. That may sound pseudy but im still really excited by it. Ms Invita was saying she had her whole life flash before her eyes, past and future!

Was reading some reviews and a bunch of people complained they couldnt hear Kevins vocals at all :D and that Bellindas couldve done with turning up too! Lots of comments like "im a huge MBV fan, but if i pay to go and see them i want to able to hear them etc."
The inaudibility and general mix of the vocals is one of the things i like most about Loveless...i really wondered how the genius of the mix would translate to the stage and I think they got it right - the dislocation between seeing Kevin singing and not really hearing anything is a great effect - and again, during the chord, seeing them all going hell for leather on their instruments and it not really having any discernible effect on what you are hearing was one of the elements of what made me trip out

too early, really.
barely civilised.

Yes why so early? 6.30 doors open and 10 pm ish kick out barely gave us time to get home, eat and take bfs son round to his brothers. We arrived 10 mins before they came on. I called the venue at 4pm to ask what time they would be on but they didn't know. I kept hearing folk telling their friends how amazing they were! And true they were mind blowing but I was able to know my mates knew we were both blown away and could wait till later to say 'fuck me etc'. A good touch with the o2 in brum is the way the list the gig outside. Took ages to get a photo of me underneath.

Hope it's better than the last effort. .

Apparently Shields said a few years ago that they've got 2 new albums. I only knew something was due last year because a mate suggested he might have some work on it...although hasn't mentioned it since so I assume he didn't get the gig.

I'm always interested because I was a big fan of pretty much all their stuff up until loveless. City Girl was great and I thought the comeback might be more like that, but it was mostly worse than loveless. One half decent track as I recall.

At the time it was big I wasn't into that stuff at all tbh. Think I only heard the term shoegaze many years later. Only really went to see them on the last album tour because my mate said it would be louder than Swans. They were very different gigs. I'd probably go see them again though.

I think I saw them twice at the time. Once around 'you made me realise' and then full into shoe gaze, (maybe just before or the cusp of loveless). I remember reading that the later one was a seminal gig in the 'you had to be there, we all bonded' territory, and that it was sooo loud, everyone had their hands on their ears. Not true. Normal largeish venue volume, nothing special and no ear holding, not even a remarkable gig in any way.

Hmmm looks like they're making the albums available to stream - possibly a new one to follow?

Still love them and was lucky enough to see them a few times.

Think it was at the T&C where they played "that" song and after about 10-15 minutes my ears were killing - a lot of people had decamped out to the foyer by this point!

Also who knew Michael Imerioli (Christopher Sopranos) was such a shoegazing fan 😎

I saw them play Birmingham 3 times in their first phase. That included a Sunday night gig at a club night called the C.O.D club in front of about 80 people. You Made Me Realise was so loud...

I then wet down and saw them at London Roundhouse much later, where the venue handed out earplugs on the way in. Then I saw them about 3-4 years ago back in Brum. A brilliant night at a packed Academy.

I hope this announcement is more than just their stuff going on Spotify...
