My Bloody Valentine are back

I could imagine it sounding like a nightmare played live

For me it was all about the "soundscapes man" - I seem to remember them having terrible trouble with some songs - the earlier songs sounded just fine but some of the Loveless "flutey" ones sounded pretty bad. Maybe the technology now will allow them to create a better experience?

I put them on at the Glasgow Barrowland once. They were shit and a pain in the arse to work with.

Which gig? I think I saw them every time they played in Glasgow, and it was the Rollercoaster one at the SECC that was shit. I've fond memories of the Barrowlands. Do tell.

It was in the Revue Bar on the floor under the main ballrooom, late 1989/early 1990. They turned up hours late and were in a really bad mood. There was a good turnout, the place was packed.

Ah well, missed that one. When they played upstairs they were transcendantly good! Instead of playing the infamous "chord" from You Made Me Realise they played the main riff over and over with increasing intensity, which was a bit easier to take, and it ramped the anticipation up to excruciating levels. Splendid stuff.

I remember starting a thread a year or so ago where you had to give your ten favourite albums, all from different countries, and I'm pretty sure it's still the case that "Isn't Anything" and "Loveless" are the only Irish record I own (from the Republic I mean). Oh apart from the entire Westlife back catalogue. ;)

This "chord" - would that be the 15 minutes of ear-splitting feedback accompanied by turning all the house lights on that I witnessed at Bradford University, c.1989?

that's the feller,
on the rollercoaster tour they had film of sparklers in slow motion.
which was rather lovely.

I always thought they were fantastic live myself.
not for everyone I suppose. It's easy to see how people could feel that the sound was bad or it wasn't going quite right - but it was supposed to be like that.

I remember being in Swordfish in Brum when Loveless came out. Someone brought a copy back in 'cos they thought it was pressed wrong. They put the CD on and said "does it sound like that?..............Yeah, it's meant to"

The new promo pictures should be fun: last I've heard, Colm O'Ciosig is barely recognizable.

Yet, I'm not that interested in seeing them live. Unless they happen to stop by one of the summer festivals around here on a strong day.

Bump, dates announced:

London, The Roundhouse – June 20
Manchester Apollo – 28
Glasgow Barrowlands – July 2

:)

Please tell me tix aren't on sale yet for something that's 7 months away..
I've lost count of the number of conversations I've had that go a bit like
"Fancy going to see xxxx?"
"yeah! When is it?"
"June!"
"Fucks' sake, I don't know what I'm doing next week, let alone in June"

Oh, you've changed yer name *eyes suspiciously*

Lots of gappage between thos dates - whats the betting on how many extra dates 'due to phenomenal public demand' are added?

Still, sorely tempted...

Brilliant pic from the Roundhouse last friday, oh the noise, noise luvvies......

That's a great pic.
why do people moan about the noise when that's kind of the point?
looking at stuff earlier up the thread about whether they'll be crap or not,
I'd say - it's definitely not the same as the records, never was, but it is an
amazing live experience. bootlegs of the shows tend to be crap because, while they find it impossible to recreate the delicate production of the records in a live environment, the all out noise assault of the live show is a physical thing as well as aural which surrounds you and on tape tends to just come out sounding like a load of noise in a bucket.

anyone know what time they come on?

Coxon 7.45-8.30

MBV 9-10.30

Saw them on Saturday night. zOMFG  :D
They were wicked. Vocals a bit too low in the mix, bur I was wearing earplugs, for which I was massively grateful wen the beautiful noise onslaught came down.
Wicked gig. No banter, no fucking about, they just came on and played wonderfully.
Sex wee indeed.
Weirdly though, people were basically giving away spare tickets outside, mate of mine could only sell his spare for 2 quid, touts were flogging them for a fiver. Madness.

Haha, that's just what Mr K said about Friday's show - "absolutely amazing, but as usual the vocals were way too low in the mix".
