They have to be good, but don't have to be well known. What have you got?

I've just [re]discovered this Columbian singer who popped up on my SoundCloud feed a while back: Kali Uchis. I listened to all of her tunes the last time then completely forgot about it/her.

She's just popped up again today and I've been having a listen. She's pretty good: it's funk/soul and reminds me a bit of Amy Winehouse, but with better music.

And she's never been mentioned on Urban before. :)

Incredibly the wonderfully evocative electronic composer François Bayle has only ever been mentioned once. By me.

Alice Stuart? She played at Essex uni one Wednesday night in the 70s. They forgot to advertise it(Students union)so only about 6 of us turned up. She still played & we sat in front of the stage, made loads of drunken stoned noise & chatted to the band between songs.

I bought a tune called Black Princess yesterday by Linford Newgend, one of the backing singers from Junior Ross & The Spear. So he's been mentioned on Urban by me when I did a Junior Ross tribute following his death last year, but not by his own name. The vocal is nice, but the real treasure is a blinding dub on the flip, mixed by prince Phillip at King Tubbys studio in 1976. The dub isn't on Youtube, so you'll have to take my word for it.

She was in the Guardian New Bands thing the other day.

Good idea for a thread - surprisingly difficult. I can find no mention of Agaric:

And no-one's mentioned Soap & Skin except me, so I'm going to cheat a bit. Give the video a miss if you're the highly strung sort though

XL Middleton is a new discovery for me. I put him on my last mix (ahem ;) ) but aside from that tracklisting, I can't find a mention of him on here. And he's funking ace!

12 albums in 12 years, and it all seems like high quality stuff.

Doesn't seem to have been any mentions of Lymbyc System - terrible name, but a pretty good electronica/post-rock duo from Arizona, sadly one of the two brothers in the band died this week.

Brian Davison's Every Which Way from 1972. Not world changing but I've always liked it.

Ex-Nice drummer 'Blinky' Davison died in 2008. He was fucking amazing.

Tonolec - Argentinian folk duo. I met them about 10 years ago in Berlin. We were guests, if that's the word, of a coked up Italian bloke who babbled about conspiracy theories for what seemed like an eternity. The singer's dad was murdered by the dictatorship.
