accompanying myself on the melodeon

Another melodeon player.

Watcha got?

My main box is a Hohner Club IIIM in C/F. Lovely deep basses, and 5 treble couplers. My first one was a Hohner Corona II in A/D/G (real workhorse of a box, played it to death at ceilidhs, etc, but still going strong), and I've got a 1 row, 4 stop Cajun box in C.

(Apologies to everyone else, but I think I'm allowed to derail my own thread :)).

The girlfriends dad is an incredible sight reader, can play absolutely anything pretty much first time. Part of Chopin's Nocturnes without having heard it for years? No problem. The git.

Wrong, he plays by ear and can barely read ackshully, which makes the Chopin thing even more impressive.

I can sight read for piano and read tab for the guitar. I could probably work out notation for guitar but I never do it and it would take me ages.

I can sightread pipe notation, which is a sort of specialised version of standard notation. My brother who's a pianist gets completely outraged at it every time he sees it. I can't read music when I'm playing the whistle because it's in the wrong key :hmm:
