music you love cos of your folks

Boogie woogie piano - Clarence "Pine Top" Smith, "Cow Cow" Davenport, Albert Ammons, Meade Lux Lewis etc and also Hoagy Carmichael ("Stardust", "Lazy Bones" etc) from my dad.

Oh, and Jake Thackery.

It's brilliant so many people have parents with taste. I hated my parents music but would like to give an honorable mention to my favourite Aunty and Tangerine Dream, Moody Blues, Fleetwood Mac and probably more.

From my Dad - Van Morrison

My Mum - Rolling Stones. She did a pretty cool thing just after I was born, She got my Dad to go out and buy the Sunday papers (it was the Moon Landing week so it was pretty historic)* and got him to buy whatever album was Number 1. It was Let It Bleed by The Stones, my favourite album of theirs. :)

* OR WAS IT !¿?!

From my Mum: Early nineties house, mixtapes and such. Universe/Club UK/Sasha/Oakenfold etc..

From my Dad: 70s/80s/90s artists like Graham Parker, Ian Dury, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Seal, Roachford, Del Amitri, Mike Scott, World Party etc..

My Mum and Dad don't really 'do' each others music but I loved it all :)

my father introduced me to so much good music. From Buzzcocks/Clash/Joy Division, to Laurie Anderson, to Brecht and Weill's threepenny opera, to Leadbelly, to Echo and the Bunnymen, to erm ELO, etc.

My mother just had a well nurtured school girl crush on John Lennon, and still does.

Beach Boys
Del Shannon
Queen

Those are the 3 main ones that I can think.

General 60's stuff too. Nothing too fancy, you know.

oh beach boys as well

weirdly enough, despite being an old hippy, my dad got me into public enemy as well. he hates hip hop cos he just thinks it's all that gangsta shit me and my brothers used to be into when we were kids, but he likes PE, boooooooy

Great stuff like Dylan, Cohen, Roxy Music, Bonzo Dog.

But also shite like Edgar Broughton*, Cream, and Strawbs

*Although I liked The House of Turnabout or whatever it was called.

From my mum - Roxy music, David Bowie, Rolling stones.....

My dad - Zappa, cream, John lee hooker, pink floyd...and tonnes more

The Sisters Of Mercy.

My mother was bang into them in the 80's and she played it a lot, they remain one of my all time favourite groups to this day.

My dad was a bit of a Dylan nut. It is his fault I can sing along word for word to almost all of 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' and 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan'.

He also introduced me to the blues and general sixties pop; Beatles, Stones, Pretty Things, Kinks. I can still remember listening to his 'Best of the Hollies' LP in the living room on a saturday afternoon and dossing about/singing etc.

I feel even older.

I must be even older!

From my late dad . . .

The Ink Spots
The Mills Brothers
Del Shannon
Sons of the Pioneers
Nat King Cole
Jim Reeves
Dinah Washington
Patsy Cline
Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey
