music intelligence quiz

heh :D

easy listening my arse

Hmm, the thing is, easy listening isn't a specific genre, so you can get easy listening jazz, easy listening country, easy listening folk.
So you could put stuff like Jazz FMs Dinner Jazz comps in easy listening rather than jazz. Peggy Lee is very easy on the ears, so it might be more useful for the customers for her CDs to go in easy listening.

Also there are no questions about 'world music' (crap category name  - but I suppose 'not sang in English music' is even worse) there, my score would be a lot better if there was :p

Not fair in my view. Besides the obvious Beethoven nothing on classical music.
Shows that those who made the quiz have not much of a clue themselves:)

salaam.

mate, the fucking butthole surfers are easy on MY ears, but i'm damned sure they shouldn't be fucking filed under Easy Listening

Would anyone who was actually into jazz ever have gone to Our Price anyway?

162 - I got the Monterey, Coldplay and Arcade Fire ones wrong, and lucked out on Ryan Adams and MF Doom. The description is not me at all though.

I don't think it was fair either - they asked questions I didn't know!

<throws toys out of pram>

Birthday Party DJ, me

13. Which of these people is not a member of the Arcade Fire?
Win Butler
Regine Chassagne
Britt Daniel
Jerry Gara

14. Miles Davis primarily played what instrument?
trumpet
tenor saxophone
piano
upright bass

:D

I get it now! It was asking: if post punk is to punk, what is to reggae!

:o:o:o

I just saw random words!

That was just a straight forward logic type of question because none of the other answers fitted, it had to be dub. Same for question 7, no music knowledge required either.

As for question 18 (How many symphonies did Beethoven compose), I wasn't sure of the answer but as I've never heard of the 10th symphony... ;)

I can see now that it was looking for a sequence, but at the time I couldn't see what it was asking for. Nothing "fitted" as far as I could see. :o

Your final score was 129/180

Mix-Tape Master (109-144 points)
You are a music evangelist: the person in your network of friends who always has the coolest new song, the one whose iPod gets picked to DJ every party. You understand the art of the segue, how the key to the best mix-tape isn't just the songs you pick, but how they interlock with each other. You also know who the up-and-coming acts are and are quick to recognise where their influences lie and whether they will make it big. You work hard at the pursuit of this knowledge, scouring music blogs, magazines and record stores. Most importantly, you are generous with your passion – and your friends should be very, very grateful. Still, it’s always good to get new inspiration for your latest mix
