I think they're a fine band - 'Hyper Music' and 'Time Is Running Out' are face. So long as they ease off on the cod-operatics and neo-classicist fretwankery...

That's what people always say about RHCP, though.

"But they're great live....!!"

Songs are still shit, though, imo. Playing them at a gig won't help me enjoy them.

Wasn't too keen on them at first, but got into them with Absolution. Followed a link from a thread on here to their live performances on YouTube - bloody impressive live!

"Mainstream" music tastes are a little bit taboo in the music forum. I remember when my brother joined the boards, he got scared straight ff by daring to suggest that dark side of the moon was a timeless classic. :p

Your brother has immaculate taste.

all the nay sayers aint seen them live
did you read corporate whore's posts?

i've also seen them at festivals, twice. the most boring, godawful, self indulgent wankery...

interminable versions of soundalike songs, one after the other.

muse go down as one of the very worst live acts i've ever seen.

Not sure about their new album but I thought the middle 2 were good. And of course mental live. For example the giant confetti balloons at the end of the Hullabaloo DVD.

Bellamy sounds like a bit of a cock though. Although he does have a jetpack: ultimate rockstar purchase!

I've largely ignored them, but what I've heard is pretty forgettable poop. Nowhere near as offensive as Coldplay, Keane, Blunt, etc though.

The ballads grate a bit sometimes, particularly when Bellamy tries to croon which he can't do for toffee, but when Bellamy cranks up the guitar they really do rock, and their live shows are always spectacular. They pushed the envelope a little with "Black Holes ...." with the mariachi and flamenco bits and dabs of electronica. Yes, the musicianship is occasionally a bit wanky but that isn't allowed to take over the shows which is what matters.

And my missus and I had "Knights of Cydonia" as the walking out music at our wedding which was .

Terrible band. Also I knew that at college and while Dom seemed like a nice guy Matt had already dissapeared up his own ass even back then.

Dislike thier music intensely. Its terrible.

I like them, and fuck the lot of you :)
I also like Queen, which I think explains it.

Quite. The world needs a bit of mad pomposity from at least one British band.

Absolution and Origin are both great albums - Butterflies and Hurricanes, Stockholm Syndrome and Plug In Baby are great tunes, was gutted I couldn't see them live earlier this year.

I once made the comparison that Muse are to Queen what Radiohead are to Pink Floyd, and that in about 15 years time there will be another two bands who occupy the melodic experimental and slightly mad opera styles of UK rock.

Plus, Knights of Cydonia is a hysterically funny song.

I saw them at Reading a few years ago (2002?) and Matt Bellamy basically didn't stop playing for the whole set, he just ad-libbed from one song to the next and it was all uptempo jumpy up and down. So imagine my surprise when I go to see them headlining at Reading last year and they were flat as a pancake.

Bumping this thread cos the new album is coming out mid-September and I just heard a track from it. The usual dubious song titles but meh.. the song itself was pretty kick ass - i'm just pissed off I can't afford to see them for this album tour :(

One song is called MK Ultra - are Muse MK Dons fans??? (thats a joke btw - i get the impression they couldn't give a shiz about football).

Anyone else looking forward to this? (the poll result was pretty even)

MK-ULTRA is the codename of an old mind-control top secret CIA project. No surprises as Matt Bellamy is a known conspiraloon :p

Muse is one of the few bands that can bring on all the bombast of Queen-style rock and still sound good. I'm pretty sure the record will be at least ok.

i'm not a fan as such, but some of their stuff is so gloriously OTT i do have a soft spot for them

(shit, sorry, el jefe posting)
