Which engine? I have a saloon - it's a great car.

The 147 might be worth a look. Try the 'Lusso' spec for a more comfortable ride.
Can't remember, but it's the JTD version. I might almost be tempted to get it for my self.

JTDs in general are pretty bulletproof. I really liked the 2.4, as mentioned.

I said a while back about peak reliability and this is a good example, more so if you can find a specialist.

If you do look at 156s seriously, let me know and I can tell you what to look for.

The new Hyundai i10 would be worth a look if your considering a fiesta.......I've got the older model ..,.well happy with it.... go for the 1.2

I've had a couple of Hyundais as hire cars at work and they've been pretty decent and smooth, got some very impressive mpg from an i30.

Only ever driving hire cars gives me a bit of insight into a range of 'average cars' albeit in new or near-new condition, general observations are that I'm pretty relaxed with Fords, Astras can be good or bad, golfs good, Renaults OK, Peugeots (mainly vans) often shite, Fiats always shite. I've also developed a hatred for people carriers, the heart always sinks when I come home and there's a Meriva or a Citreon Zsara Potato parked outside.

Hyundais are well underrated,I'm not familiar with the petrol versions but the diesel Getz are great, basic but good, my friend has one that's done 150'000 miles and aside from brake pads and general servicing has never gone wrong.

Sisters hyundai Tuscan ,now 11 year old from new 4x4..... (drives like a floaty barge though )....is really comfortable ....leathers in amazingly good nick considering its age and the dog has the run of the car in the odd short stop car park, its never had a fault or failed to start....just the usual brake pads, AC top up, and tire change when needed ..uber reliable.....too much of a tank for my tastes ,but she luvs the height, feeling of safety and the occasional diff lock in snow. Its been left outside for 11 years and rarely cared for , without even a hint of rust ....

I wish the original mini could have been rebuilt to modern specs but in the same dimensions ..small cars are great for the country lanes around my gaf .......the German revamp is just too big.

Thank goodness for that, otherwise i might have known the culprits. Know what you mean about small engined cars. Back in the day, u had a tiny fiat 128 3p..from standing to 30, untouchable.
