Mr Madz just made me a hatstand!

Hatstand? Some bark? Perhaps he's trying to tell you something. He'll make a rocking chair next, or maybe some loopy earrings

They're not in the least bit fragile. We've got a big one in the kitchen - had it for years with various kids, cats, dogs clambering on it. They're also deceptively comfy - specially with a sheepskin on them
Aww. Lovely. They suitable for outdoors as well? *carries on plotting future castle*

Not really suitable for outdoors, no. You can oil them with teak oil and leave them out in the summer but it's best not to :)

It's a braaaaaanch!!! give over!

No, it's smoother than a branch. You can see work has been done if you know what to look for.

Stunning furniture madz, and a lovely hatstand. What's mr madz using? Looks a bit like cherry to me in the hatstand. Couldn't make out the base though.

It's hazel for the furniture and the hatstand and leylandii that he cut down on a job for the base of the hatstand.

ph - I don't think they have tres in St Helens do they? All been burned down or sold for crack :)

Hazel's good, lots of uses and entirely sustainable. Coppicing is

Knew it was one of the ones in my garden, but it's dark and I couldn't be arsed going out and checking ;)
I've got contorted hazel if he wants bits to get fancy with :D

It's not meant to be - it's meant to be rustic!

Cock off city boy

When I was on the buildings 'rustic' was what we called things when we'd fucked them up.

"What do you mean the plaster's not even? It's not meant to be, it has rustic charm" :D

I think I've worked out what's going on.

This reminds me of Rorymac's recent story about scaffolding.

Well I think it was about scaffolding.

And some chap who wanted to do something related to Rory's scaffolding.

I think someone was called Bully.

His woodwork and your soft furnishings would be fab, missus.

Mind you, turnround time of four years would put even the very rich off :p
