mp3 list

right, i think ivebeenhigh is probably best handling the fileshare side of it, so i'll set up the mailing list..

everyone happy to do it via a PROD mailing list: we already have the mechanics in place, and it means it'd be free of meddling from listservers like Yahoo etc..

ok, i've signed up for savefile, and logged in - how do you link your log-in with the u75 project?

if you give me a little while i'll do a nice idiots guide on how to do all this. dubversion can then send it out on the new mailing list. everyone is as happy as a sandboy

not that i am calling you an idiot by the way :p

yep. for the time being if people can still send their emails to the gmail address i gave above, and then i'll ASK WOLFIE (of course :) ) to set up a list

i'll get wolfie to set up the list to send out a welcome email which will include the more 'sensitive' details, all of which we can amend later..

i suggest - but am happy to change - the following:

1) we'd request that group members limit their uploads to a handful a week to avoid overloading everybody...
2) we'd strongly advise against constantly uploading tracks by the same artists (especially if said artist is your band and your using the list as a kind of MySpace resource).
3) we'd ask that group members don't hand out the password indiscriminately. There's no bar on people being involved (and they don't necessarily have to be Urban 75 users) but while we don't consider what we're doing to be strictly illegal (and are doing it in the spirit of introducing members to new music we hope they'd then move on to buying themselves) we do need to keep an eye on things.

how does that lot strike everyone?

oh, and i have a shitload of gmail invites if someone needs one

YESYESYES!!! I'd love one, pleez!! :)
And am up for joining the mp3 list tooo :)

after reading the music on that other mp3 thread, and not knowing a quarter of the tracks or bands, i doubt anyone would want anything i've got to offer....

:(

ignore that nasty dubversion, foo - you'd have laughed if it was funny.

join up anyway - it'll be a cheap & fun way of making yourself look hip, without having to shell out for the nike trainers or burberry check caps. :)

yeh, but i'm not hip. that's the thing killerb. and i don't know any obscure music it seems. i think my taste is quite limited....

i'll join up and give it a go though :)

i don't think it matters - people are free to contribute as little as they like, i'd say - as long as there's enough people contributing regularly, i don't see why people can't just download mainly, while only uploading every now and then?

In one of my .net magizines there is a piece about how to turn gmail into an online stroage system.

If people(ie dub) want info on this then PM me and i will dig it out. I would be intrested in this.

I had a play with some email lists over the weekend and I can't get either of the versions to do what I want.
One of them lets you email all the list just by sending an email to the list address BUT members have to be added manually.
The other one lets people subscribe via a web link BUT to send a message to the list you have to log on and do it via a web page ...

Both mailing scripts claim to do both things but I can't get them to work

I'll have another play this evening (but not for long cos Life on Mars is on)

i don't mind adding list members manually if i can get sent the emails when they sign up... does that help?
