Moving to London

I'm really not sure. I've seen flats right at the end of Cambridge Heath Rd advertised as being in Bethnal Green and ten minutes from Old St. :D Ah, the optimism of the estate agent! Cephas St I'd have to refer to as between Whitechapel and Bethnal Green - I've got a couple of friends who live there, too.

It's a nice manor. Globe Town Massiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive

well, that and the routes/destinations.

the north london line is a cracker if you're needing to get from east to west for eg, altho its now called london overground. connects stratford and richmond and many points of interest in between. just watch your back and your bag when you get out to the wick area.

and Kilburn I saw a pretty grim mugging on that bit, but I think its improved now

If you could lay your hands on some canal boats you could do something pretty nifty along the river lea when its been developed for the games, cafes, accommodation, cruises

but what about the olympics eh? plan ahead now and you could have a trackside seat come 2012....

a trackside seat of a car-park being built over the proposed site when the olympic committe realise london ain't got a chance of getting fuck all ready on time and a face-saving change is made to an existing location, you mean? :D

4. which is still pretty good. you do have to remember when they are though. only 9 mins to london bridge on the fast train. from zone 3!

Yeah, it's 10 mins to London Bridge for me and we're right out in zone 4. 25 mins when it's not a fast train though.

some broken glass and a couple of old cabbages outside a shop last time i was there.
that's a cert for a forthcoming grauniad "where shall we live next?" feature then....:D

they had the wick in last w/e's edition and then used a pic of grove road shops to illustrate its rustic charms....which is a bit like using a pic of hyde park to reveal the joys of kilburn....

i'm not that far away in clapton tbf

Well, they've got a fair few galleries/artists studios in them there disused light industrial buildings..

edgy:D

i had to go to hackney wick a bit in my last job, there's a big development being built by the housing association close to the station - that station is miserable tbf, but i guess will be improving with all the building going on

yeah but we're not advising you, you doofus, we're advising your man from york as to where to hang his hat

and if you are living in claphamton, he should prolly consider living somewhere else like east ham or hounslow east innit? :D

If by 'edgy' you mean cheap, and relativly near the galleries on Vyner's street, and in Bow etc, then yes 'edgy' it is.

edgy as in cheap, with cred!

what's likely to happen, as did in shoreditch, is with the olympics coming, more developers move into the wick, prices go out, and the artists are forced elsewhere

there is a lot of building works going on there at the moment, i went to a greasy spoon in felstead street a few times in the summer, they were coining it in from all the construction workers, and it's going to get busier over the next few years

So.....I finally moved down and opted with North London in the end - Highgate, well sort of in between Highgate and Crouch End. Seems decent enough.

Thanks for all the advice it was very useful

My next questions with not been local are?

1. Can anyone recommend some decent boozers near me - The winchester on Archway road is my nearest and seems ok, if perhaps a little on the quiet side.

2. Decent eats - any good eateries near by that are worth giving a whirl - A decent Chinese would be a great help cause the one I had last night was fooking awful!

3. Anything else of interest to see and do up Highgate way (apart from the cemetery)

Ta very much

There should be Sunday farmers markets at Ally Pally this week - they are on Sundays 10-3.
