Moving into an unfurnished flat

I've been in my own flat 10 years nearly and when I moved in the only new thing I got was a bed.
Nearly everything else has been second hand except some ikea bookshelves and wardrobes.

Things that are always handy on moving in day

cleaning stuff
4 way electrical adaptors
some light bulbs
kettle two mugs and teabags

Things to do first when you move in

put on kettle
make bed
drink tea.
relax

you can unpack sort out at your leisure

Of course! I'd completely forgotten I have one of those! Supoib ;)

The ones that EVERYONE seems to have at festivals cost about £10 for two.

Not the strongest but pretty good and have other uses :)

Netto will have beanbags in for £9.99 next week. If you look at the "offers from 8th september" leaflet on their website, they're on there. They've also got one of those fold up airer things for drying clothes for £8 which would come in handy. Actually, looking at that leaflet it seems you could buy most stuff you need for your new place from there for about £30!

supermarkets have kettles and tosters for around a fiver each. as do argos.

£4.92 kettle:

all argos

Woolworths are good for kitchen stuff for a fiver, iron, sandwich toaster, toaster, kettle etc. Also do a value range for washing up bowls, bins and laundry baskets for less than £2.

Spent our first night in the flat on Tuesday! :D  My mate found a mattress outside someone's house down the road from us which they let him have, so he's sorted; I 'camped' it with a sleeping bag and camping mat, but hopefully should have a sofa/mattress thing down tomorrow

Current debate is what to do with the living room - either go fairly traditional with sofas/armchairs, etc, or go more Asian/African with lots of cushions and low tables and have people on the floor, with mebbe a couple of chairs somewhere.

Where's the best place to pick up cheap cushions to put inside cushion covers?

Second hand shops?
I bought back 2 cushion covers from India and thought I'd buy cushions themselves in furniture shops. I think fake cushions are crap as you sit on them and go right through to the floor as the fillings are crap. Anyway I found two feather cushions for £1.50 each in the local second hand shop.
Wicked fun starting out in a new place eh!

Something my mate did was instead of buying stackable boxes he went and got cardboard ones from the supermarket that they deliver the fruit in...... they stack up really well on each other and they've got cool retro fruit graphics on them..... they're good for clothes etc.

Im guessing you've looked at freecycle too?

Ooooh I'd recomend a shredder for paperwork too..... Have you got a hoover, ironing board (not that ive ever used mine) kettle, microwave, pots and pans etc etc.....

I only did this all last november, its so nice to be settled in :)
