Moving House

Good luck Vipper and missfran :)

We are now in the house we want to be in at least until we leave the country.. Moved more times than I have fingers and toes and it feels good to settle in a wonderful place :)

We're in! I'm fucking knackered but we're in! Next time we are definitely using a professional moving company, ageing dads can only do so much. But after three days hard work carrying heavy boxes up and down two flights and stairs and a massive end-of-tenancy clean, we're happily camping out in our new flat (except right now, when I am at the in-laws because they are feeding us and have internet access).

We're camping out in the flat because we have no bed or chairs and are therefore sleeping on a mattress on the floor and had to buy two beanbags today. But we have our own flat! And that's the important thing.

When's your big move?

Thursday. Sat "working" at home in a sea of boxes and wondering where the hell all this stuff came from. And how the hell we are going to pack the rest of it in the next 3 evenings. Still, has to be done and will be worth it. Nearly there.

Glad it went OK.

I could not believe the amount of stuff we managed to have in our little one-bed flat. Masses and masses of it - mostly books and kitchen stuff. It just. kept. coming. But we got there in the end and so will you.

I bloody love my new flat, even though it is currently full of boxes and packing materials. The fridge freezer and washing machine arrived yesterday so we're almost fully functional.

Off to Ikea tomorrow for some curtains.

That I understand, we emptied the loft last night. The stuff just kept coming, mostly baby things, but an incredible volume of them. There is an incredible amount of it. Thank god we hired a big lorry and not a large transit.

This time tomorrow I will be on my way to get the keys.

Yes, I am going from excited to terrified and back again in a rollercoaster of emotion.

Not helped by the alternator going on my car on the way home from work last night, though. The only time it could have been worse is on the way to get the keys tomorrow morning.

Glad your move went OK.

I had one week to sell a car (new place doesn't have any parking). I managed to sell it, then 3 days before we moved the buyer came back, said the roof was leaking and they were returning the car and wanted their money back. Nightmare. I had to give them £100 to get it fixed themselves.

I'm taking the afternoon off to tackle some unpacking today. The bedroom looks like a clothes bomb went off.

Are you moving far?

About 30 miles, not that far I guess but far enough to be a nuisance.

The garage just called me to say the car is fixed. I am gobsmacked and delighted. Hounslow MOT Centre, Pears Road, Hounslow - top people. They do dirt cheap quality fudges on crap cars. :D

I used them for the MOT on the car I sold!

We only moved down the road. You sound like you're in the area - do you know West Ealing at all?

Vaguely, yes. I used to go to the Plough in Northfields a lot and know Boston Manor quite well. I live, until tomorrow, by Hounslow East tube station. Tomorrow I will live in Farnham.

I used to live on Pears Road and have delivered a steady stream of knackered old cars to them for emergency repairs. They are good and very helpful.
