Haven't got that far yet, Velouria - but I did phone back the guy who quoted me £350, and he is up for carrying it downstairs as part of the job, and he does know how much it weighs, so I'm just waiting to fix a date.

Well, I've spent the last three weeks trying to contact him again but his phone's permanently switched off. 
I got to the point at the end of last week where I said to the universe, "FFS if it's going to be this difficult then give me a clearer sign that it's not meant to be" and believe it or not, the next day someone on Bristol Freecycle offered a green range cooker.
I've just collected it. It'll never be as lovely as the Esse would have been, but it's electric which is much more sensible really, and it was light enough for me to get in the back of my estate car.
