MOT Farce

My MOT ran out of Friday and I'm booked in on Monday at the garage - does that mean I shouldn't use my car tomorrow? :(

No you shouldn't. You are only legal to drive to the MOT station since your MOT ran out.

It really isn't worth getting caught now.

It gets worse!

Just dug out my old MOT to take with me tomorrow and it actually ran out on the 21st September! So I was driving round on Thursday and Friday illegally! Quite glad I didn't know!

I've been driving our other car today so it's not been a problem (except my daughter moans coz she doesn't like this other one - it's not cool apparently! )

Those who are tempted to buy a dodgy MOT from a pub, there are now very few testing stations left who are not on the computer link to DVLA, the cop will know if it's bent.
.

It doesn't even need a stop check now:-

Arrests in lead-up to Labour meeting
Nine people were arrested in Brighton and Hove by police as part of security measures for next weeks' Labour Party conference.

Police used a new hi-tech weapon, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), which flags up suspect vehicles.

With it fitted to police cars, ANPR teams checked vehicles as they entered the city at the weekend.

The system works by scanning number plates and matching them against information stored in databases.

MOT time coming up for me...got that sinking feeling. Fair bit to do I reckon. I know some dodgy places I could try but what's the point? I'd rather me driving a safe car than one that left me slightly uncomfortable every time I drove it.

My car passed - hooray! :D :D

Flashy new MOT certificate - even comes with a little sticker to put on your windscreen so you don't forget when the next one is due! :D

It is all computerised now and you can ring a number and find out if the mot certificate is legit - theres some info for those of you who buy dodgy ones.

There is an MoT place near me in London that's just a privately-run MoT place (not a government testing station) that only does MoTs - they don't do repairs.

I've always thought that a good idea because at least you know that they are not inventing problems just to get the repair work out of it.

Don't know if these sort of places exist around the rest of the country though.

Giles..
