if you want to go out pubbing, small town england is one of the worst places cos you can't get a beer after 11 unless you go to some shitty club which shuts at one, and it's still ridiculously expensive

Central Africa had some great bars with crazy guitar music, dancing, ice-cold bottled beers plus roast meat, plantain and dough-balls on oil-drum bbqs - and of you were adventurous, murky plastic bottles of palm-wine homebrew sold by some old guys with a sill just out of town and often drunk from a shared old tin cup.

With the exception of places like Bangalore, there's no drinking culture except for gloomy Permit Rooms where locals get hammered on hard liquor in near darkness - which helps to maintain their anonymity.

The beer in India is revolting frothy shite, who's only redeeming feature is 6% abv.

Mind you about India - at least the beer had a decent alcohol content! A few bottles was enough to get you fairly pissed! (Although it had a chemical aftertaste to match)

The chemical after-taste & bloated feeling is due to glycerine which is added as a preservative.

The licensing laws have changed. In my small town i can go out till 3am most nights, 4am at weekends and thursdays and mondays. This is not going to clus but bars!

When I lived in Peckham my local closed at 11pm and 12pm at weekends. A couple of pubs did lockins but there tre lock ins here too.

If I wanted to go out late locally in Peckham I would have to go to one of the dodgly clubs on the "frontline".

So I would say the provinces have caught up!

Did you ever try the local rum in various states? I particularly remember a tipple called 'Negro He-man' down in Kerala. Jesus. That stuff had a kick.
