Most Perfect Pop Single Of All Time

If you (amongst others) are allowed such entries that really do stretch the definition of 'pop' to breaking point, I'm going to widen the scope of my original entry, and add:

REM - Losing My Religion

U2 - Mysterious Ways
FUCK OFF! :p

But they don't stretch the definition at all

I would have called most of them indie/rock, except for the Wee Papa Girl Rappers one.

I can't remember there being anything as heavy as "Touch Me I'm Sick" on Top of the Pops, ever, for instance.

Er indie/rock is a subgenre of pop - pop is a big umbrella term

Its THE umbrella term, really, as an abbreviation of popular music. So it could cover most music from about 1950 until now.

But it doesn't though, does it.

In my memory.... natalie imbruglia, torn. Shakespeare's sister, stay.

Of all time.... need to think about thatun.

Yes it does! I don't know why 1950 is your cut off point though
I would argue that a lot of stuff like Dean Martin and the likes could be retrospectively added to the pop canon

Dubversion told me it was a song by the Beatles but I can't remember which one. He has so many favourites.

Kylie - Come into my world & Can't get Blue Monday out of my head
Desireless - Voyage Voyage
Girls Aloud - Biology
Britney - Toxic & Overprotected

my list of these seems to always involve

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
Althea & Donna - Uptown Top Ranking
Kylie - Can't Get You Outta My Head
Madonna - Like A Prayer
Outkast - Hey Ya
Beyonce - Crazy In Love
Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet

everyone a winner
Martha & The Vandellas - Heatwave

This list! Saves me having to write it out again.

'You are the generation that bought more shoes and you get what you deserve' by Johnny Boy.

It's so great that I think it's great, and I normally hate that sort of stuff. And you can't knock that title.:)

Should have been number one in every country in the world for a year. :)

Back For Good - Take That worked on many levels too.

Often, a good pop song is not one you'd choose to play when alone, rather one that jumps out from the radio/disco & evokes memories, feelings & an urge to dance that is impossible to fight.

I'm still with:

Kylie - Can't Get You Outta My Head
Outkast - Hey Ya
Beyonce - Crazy In Love
Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet

Also Buzzcocks - Orgasm Addict but that may be tied into personal experience, as opposed to its 'timeless quality' :)
