Most Perfect Pop Single Of All Time

everyone knows all the words,.

I bloody don't. Le Bon's strangled whine is virtually unintelligible on everything he did, which based on "she's about as easy as a nuclear war" is probably a good thing

Written by one of the chaps from Mud wasn't it.
It was written by Cathy Dennis and Rob Davis who was the lead axeman with Mud.

Tiger Feet. Now there's a great song. He didn't write that one though.

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
Common People - Pulp
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Good Vibrations - Beach Boys

And of course we musn't forget the classic...

Saturday Night - Whigfield

:D

A lot of Motown's back catalogue I think is perfect pop, from "I second that emotion" through to "heatwave"

But then again I think 'love will tear us apart' and 'new rose' are both pretty perfect pop records.

The End of the World as we know it - REM
Wee Rule - Wee papa girl rappers
Waterfalls - TLC
Touch me i'm sick - Mudhoney
Happy Busman - Frank & Walters
Bullet proof/ 92 degrees - PWEI
Only Love Can Break Your Heart - St ETtiene (NOT wetherall mix)

yeah, there's a lot of poppies stuff that could definitley fall under the "pop" category - and i don't think they'd mind it being called pop.

"get the girl, kill the baddies"

another GA one - "sound of the underground"

Sweet Dreams My LA Ex - Rachel Stevens
1 Thing - Amerie (although not strictly pop)
Money - Girls Aloud
Hung Up - Madonna
Opportunities or Heart - Pet Shop Boys.

Eeeh! I love pop music me...

Definitely another vote for Heatwave. I had it in my head the instant I saw the thread title.

Holland-Dozier-Holland on their toppest form, which is saying something for a team with their track record.

Wake up Boo - boo radleys - anyone who makes a chirpy upbeat pop song beloved of early morning DJs everywhere about the death of a close friend / lover is alright by me

Get Out by Jojo (?) was AMAZING i HAVE to dance to it and the backing vocals are bustin man

Blimus! I thought that was only me. When I'm listening to it in public via my headphones I have to try very hard not to bawl out loudly to that last "GET OUT!" towards the end of the tune

I'd also like to add

Charlotte Church - Crazy Chick

Are Passenger of Shit really a pop act Sam, or some sort of noisy breakcore/brainache/gabba outfit that are about as far removed from pop as is possible? :p

I like that Nelly Furtado one I heard the other day - more pop should be like this - bombastic and catchy and fun!

Billie Jean
Papa Don't Preach
I Should Be So Lucky ( I know can't get you out of my head is better, but ISBSL is one I loved when I was in my pop music phase when I was 12, so that's what I'm voting for)

If you (amongst others) are allowed such entries that really do stretch the definition of 'pop' to breaking point, I'm going to widen the scope of my original entry, and add:

REM - Losing My Religion
Boo Radleys - Barney and Me
Undertones - Teenage Kicks
New Order - True Faith
Hole - Celebrity Skin
U2 - Mysterious Ways
Nirvana - Lithium

Depends on your definition of pop I suppose

I mean, 'Poo Cock In My Anus' amd 'Eating Worms Off My Shit' both have a strong song structure, catchy lyrics and a funky melody . . .
