Most overrated actor or actress

Antony Hopkins - All technique no warmth. Ditto Tom Cruise.

Jim Carrey - running around the film manically gibbering, shouting and gurning like a kid whose had too much fizzy pop does not make a great performance - it means you are acting like a twat. 'look at me! look at me! Look at me!'

Robin Williams - similar criticism to the above really.

Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery and michael caine have great screen presence. Clint when he takes on the a bar full of would be adversieries at the end of Unforgiven -

"All right, I'm coming out. Any man I see out there, I'm gonna shoot him. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I'm not only gonna kill him, but I'm gonna kill his wife, all his friends, and burn his damn house down".

utterly convincing, utterly chilling and no one else could do it but Clint.

none of these are rated for being good actors though. They're all just 'quirky'.

I hate Hopkins - a wannabe Burton.

When he does that advert where he quotes Bladerunner, I don't believe for a minute he knows that line, nor that he cares to know it, and that sums up his whole career for me....a man who will do whatever he has to infront of the camera.

Brian Cox's Lector was way superior too - I would be scared of his Lector, but Hopkin's was like my Nan.

OU laughed at me about the Batman films, but I thought he was so apt for the part. Some of the lines might sound well cheesy if said by someone else, but when he said them they were pure poetry

Brian Cox's Lector was way superior too - I would be scared of his Lector, but Hopkin's was like my Nan.

Cox was nice and subtle, like an incredibly smart, charming guy who could pass as normal but was a total psychopath underneath. Hopkins was like a teenager's imagining of a psychopath. I didn't see Manhunter until about 5 years ago and I was stunned by just how fantastic Cox is.

all hopkins does in silence of the lambs is speak in a different accent whilst not moving or blinking. it's very effective though, admittedly.
i can't remember much about cox in manhunter. all i can remember is that annoying trademark mann lighting.
