Most miserable train/tube/bus station in london?

Ah yes, but think what will be there by 2012

Brixton or Elephant & Castle BR stations, now those two are hellish. Brixton is the only station in which I have had to step over the crackheads to buy my ticket.

Really? I've never seen a crackhead by the ticket machines in Brixton. Was this some time ago or?

When the Victoria Line was down from Victoria to Brixton to put in th enew points at brixton, about 2000 I think..??

Dont be slagging Hither Green! But yeah, the long steep tunnelled ramp isnt pretty. :o Preferable to Dalston though?!

Brixton is also shit. I hate that filthy stone staircase and the tunnels. Plus the platform which exits onto (Atlantic Road? is it?) is a deathtrap with half of London pushing behind you. The surroundings aren't great either.

*hunkers down for daring to criticise Brixton!*

It's Hither Green's steep tunnelled ramp and the tunnel, late at night :o But yes, it is preferable to Dalston.

Not keen on Abbey Wood either.

My vote goes to Bethnal Green Overground station, stinks of piss and the building are just corrogated iron sheds. I had the pleasure of being there early on Sunday morning when it was deserted.

Mitcham Junction is pretty grim IIRC.

We have a winner!

My last visit there involved having to stare down a wired youth with a big hunting knife (him not me) who was stalking up and down the platform getting nearer and nearer to barging into me. I reckon any sign of fear and he would have been requesting my wallet and watch:mad:

Yeah, but they have made big strides in making it feel safer with the anti grafitti boards that go the length of the tunnel. I dont mind it now.
I only go that way if I have the bike, usually I go out the other entrance at the end of platform 1. Thats fine.

Actually, my bike was stolen there two years ago, Id had it 6 days! The police said the CCTV was shit and they couldnt make anything out other than some blurry bastard with my bike.

Its all been changed now though- CCTV is damn clear- I was asked inside that little guards room to look at it.
However, dont get mugged by the stairs on platform 5 though, the CCTV cant see there :)

Tbh, I haven't used it for about three years. I (typically  <<< @ self) missed the last train back into London and couldn't get a cab cos the football was on or summat. Not the best evening I can remember :D

Definately the "new" platforms on London Bridge mainline. They are purgatory, absolute hell, and in such marked contrast to the lovely old station there.

my vote goes to Hackney Wick, went there today for a meeting nearby, when you get off the train, it looks pretty miserable all round, come out of the staion on a back street in an industrial estate, a bit clueless as to where the main road is, seems to be hardly any housing around there, so probably a little intimidating at night, and then you have a load of old scrap yards, abandoned buildings etc - depressing tbh:(

A mate of mine lives there - some of that scary industrial stuff is artists live/work space. She's been mugged twice (perhaps more, I haven't seen her for  a year!) and last time I went over she txt to say 'look out for the shit on the step'. We didn't think it was dog poo :(:(

My personal least favourite bus stop is Dalston Juntion going towards hackney Central. I only end up there out of desperation, it's too near a busy road during the day and scary at night and I always almost wet myself.

It's the Silverlink out East that's horrible, all of it. THe trains are stupidly shaped, you can't see the station name from inside, slow, crowded, stinky, scary. I forgot I almost got mugged at Dalston Junction too

I like buses :) I watched the street lights go off in a line <plinkplinkplink> from the stop this morning

I heard about that, was that you who got mugged..??
No no. Ive never had a problem there (other than the bike!) Have there been any problems?
It was just a conversation I had with one of the platform guards and the police who came to look where my bike had been nicked from. You cant see parts of the platform from the CCTV.

I was about to comment on Woolwich Dockyard. :D It really is pretty unpleasant. Charlton station's not somewhere I care to hang about after dark either.

You've obviously never had the pleasure of spending 28 minutes waiting for a train there on a dark evening after mistakenly getting off a tram thinking it would be quicker than taking the Wimbledon-Clapham Junction option.

I had a very distinct impression of being watched from the other side of the tramlink platforms by a distinctly unsavoury character - who I can only assume had hoped the lone passenger on the national rail platform would be a single female rather than a 6'3" bloke.:(

Exactly. I worked there for a few months and getting the train home used to scare theshite out of me. The platform was inevitably deserted with all sorts of creepy chancers lurking in the bushes. Or it felt that way anyway.

Ah, the glamour of South East London... ;)

I've got a soft spot for Hackney Wick station 'coz I've had some amazing nights/next days in those abandoned buildings.

I find Morden to be the most miserable station around - maybe not so much because of the station itself, although it doesn't exactly make the heart leap with joy - but because if I find myself there it means I've either fallen asleep on the Northern Line or, Lord help me, I'm on the way to Mitcham...

I used to hate Morden station with a passion, mainly because I was stupid enough to live there.:(

Actually I recently went to Hackney Wick to look at renting warehouse live/work space  :o So the gentrification is starting! It was far to bleak and shockingly expensive for me though - looks like lots of art student types are moving in so the yuppie flats can't be far behind.
