Back in the 60's, there were 4 record companies (EMI, Decca, Pye and Phillips) and they had labels but most of the stuff on their labels was much of a muchness. You bought tunes but you had no label loyalty
In 1966, Decca launched the first 'boutique' label whose idea was that cool people could buy anything and everything that the label released because it would be guaranteed to be cool music. The label was Deram
