Most fucking annoying supposedly 'ok' comedy

"GOT YOUR FUN PACKS?! It should contain a curly wurly, a torch, a pen, one vodka minature, 1 bic-style razor and a copy of the Daily Express...OOOOOOO, ITS A GOOD PAPER"

Don't we automatically discount all pre watershed BB1 sit-coms...? not enough hours in my life for those.

Never got the whole Peter Kaye / Phoenix Nights thing and thought Max and Paddy was terrible. Also "Ideal" - which for ages i thought might be genius but i think is just really poor.

I'm going to hold out a flag of love for "Green Wing", though. I know people hate the speeded up bits, but taking or leaving those bits, my favourite comedy show since I was a teenager and went to school reciting chunks of Blackadder 2.

Friends is the worst "comedy" to ever grace, or rather dirty our screens, especially when you look at a certain other NY sitcom about single 30 somethings. I mean of course Seinfeld which has never been given a chance over here despite its brilliance.

The Office and Phoenix Nights are indeed overrated but reasonable. Little Britain is terrible repetitive shite as I've iterated many times before.

Something which dawns on me is that this decade hasn't had it's UK group of comedians come through in the way that Python, Not The 9 O'Clock News and The Young Ones, and The Day Today did respectively in the previous three decades. Work by those people involved on those shows and others defined the 1970s, 80s and 90s in UK comedy. Where's it going to come from? Definitely not Gervais and Merchant or Lucas and Walliams or Kay, so where?

I know I'm standing myself in good stead for getting my head sliced off with a rusty dagger by saying this, but here goes...

I always felt that 'The League Of Gentlemen' was overrated beyond belief
I agree here. A lot of annoying characters make an annoying show, not a funny one.

Wahey - yes, fucking awful. Friends is another that makes me really really depressed. I wasn't really thinking of American comedies originally but there are some magic ones like Larry Sanders, Bilko, Simpsons, Laurel and Hardy, 3 Stooges etc etc love that sad music in Taxi - would have that at funeral.

Cheers and Frazier are slick but I can't help but be a bit annoyed by them. I like Norm and Cliff in Cheers and I think it's because they are losers.

It is hardly a groundbreaking thesis but I am convinced that for comedy to be good and not annoying, the main characters have to be losers - if they are 'cool' and life is going well, there is no comedy - it annoys the fuck out of you.

Slightly off topic but is anything more likely to make you hang yourself than a combination of the following: terrible hangover, awful day at work and then..... being forced to watch Ally McBeal?

at last...someone agrees with me :D

I really miss Larry Sanders....definitely long overdue for repeating...

I haven't seen it or even heard of it- :o I don't live in Britain. Is it even British?

nah...American, sort of progression of the Larry Sanders thing. Based on (and starring, and written by) Larry David, the creator of Seinfeld.

Thanks - what channel is it on in Britain? My mate Shandy is a good egg and sends me out whatever he thinks is good from home. Can he send this? By the way, your 'Rigsby with a pint' picture is going to get enlarged and framed over my sofa. Tops!

What you doing up at 3.20? It is 9.20 here and Her Indoors is still asleep so I am having a little sneaky drop of Scotch in my saturday morning coffee? Care to join?

nice one :D

it's a cracking photo isn't it....

as for CYE I'm not sure what channel it's on, it's made by HBO but I've downloaded all 4 series off t'internet (I don't have satellite or owt...)

here's a cheeky card I picked up recently.... :D

That picture is ace. I did an edit to last post - have a look- did you agree with my list of annoying comedies? I was maybe a bit harsh on Blackadder as last episode of Blackadder 4 is really good where they go over the top. Wish i hadn't included that - just think Ben Elton is is a cumstain.

why am I up? well...we've been moving last few days, yesterday I had to drive the hire van back, sort some stuff out, then drive back in our Triumph Herald - all went a bit tits up and for some godforsaken reason I'm back at work in the 24hr computing bit...I'm the only sad cunt here :D

got to dump some stuff in the next hour or so....take the hire van back, walk back home (well it was home..) then drive for 3 hours or so!

I definitely need that Irish coffee :D

Little Britain wins for me. Total utter piss. Monty Python is another piddle of wank and Vic Reeves is a dog's rod. What else? Men Behaving like the Wankers you put up with at Work, two Packets of spunk thing, the excruciating Goons, Absolutely fabulous, anything your girlfriend likes (joke - ironic innit?) The Young ones is mince (try watching it again) most of Blackadder is rubbish, Emo Philips' arms waving about, Vicar of Dibley (or is that not even supposedly funny?) anything that is 'ooh look I am gay and that sounds like a refernce to bumming', Skinner and Baddiel ...feel ill just writing those names..can't continue.

as for your list...

Blackadder I just find tedious now, but the last episode is class like you say...I quite liked Little Britain but now I want to smash the tv in, never really had time for MBB or Crisps and Lager, Young Ones just looks like shite, Vicar of Dibley makes me want to gouge my own eyes out but me ma and pa, brothers AND my better half all love it

I think I pretty much agree with you...I do still have time for some of Python, never really seen the Goons and I have to say that I like a lot of Vic & Bob's stuff...

Ok, as there is only me and thee up I will ask a very searching profound question. Who is best comedy creation? Not comedy or series or owt but character? I find this easier than 'best ever comedy' but you have to go first (I know this is a bit twee but so fuck, no other fucker is up)

Catherine Tate springs to mind.

About as funny as being stretched out on a rack, over a bed of hot coals, with goats licking my feet, while being forced to listen to an entire William Shatner album being played backwards...

Come to think of it, that would be preferable to sitting through the fucking Catherine Tate Show.
