Yes but Hitchens morphed into a character palying Hitchens a while ago, you feel he's trying to live up to something. They trot him out because he's "game for a laugh", guarenteed to say something. Classic case of too many talking head shows; he probably waits in the car park all day posting on Twitter hoping the scheduled guests cancel, "can always get Chris on you know".
I think sometimes he knows what he's talking about and he can write well but he can't let anything go gracefully, he's flogged his anti-theism to death and rarely strays beyond the same half dozen arguments. He's a self publicist and intelligent but too many people give the latter overemphasis. It's become about 80% salesmanship; you could have condensed the God book into about 2 chapters and put it as a preface to the atheist writings collection.
