he's anything but depressing, as people like to claim.

often is quite depressing. sometimes more upbeat/humourous.

'i know it's over' was near the top of a list of most depressing songs of all time.

I've always thought his lyrics were funny, and intended to be.

Except theyre not funny, apart from in an incredibly wanky self-conscious ´I´m-fucking-Oscar-Wilde-me´ kind of way.

Which is more annoying than anything, tbf.

He´s written some great songs, sure, but he´s an absolute wanker of the first order.

Not crap.

Only really got into the Smiths when I started uni in Manchester (which was a couple of years ago), and havent stopped listening since then. I do like his solo stuff but agree that its not at the same level. Managed to get tickets for next years tour which I am rather looking forward to!
