Monkey: Journey to the West

Tripitaka gave me all sorts of problems as a child.

Hey look at that sexy lady. What it's a boy? Oh no. Oh wait it is a girl playing a boy. That was close.

So Tripitaka is a boy? I thought she/he was a princess? Just goes to show, I didn't have a clue what was going on in that series.

A couple of mates at work have seen the Opera, said it was visually stunning but didn't appear so enthusiastic about the music from what I could gather.
They went separately during the previews when it was only a tenner and both said it wasn't as tight as it could've been.

It looked a bit shit on that TV show the other night.

A bit like a school play with loads of money. Maybe you had to be there.

naru goku/monkey/sun wukong is very nice

I thought it looked pretty good - though I was interested in the behind the scenes stuff more.

All the behind the scenes stuff and Hewletts drawings made me think it was going to be incredible.

It ended up looking like a Max Fisher production, good and well produced but ultimately childlike. Even the Umbrella lady looked daft.

bump - the documentary about the making of this was repeated on BBC2 last night. i hadn't seen it before. it looked very good. i want to see it now. but it's too late.

can't imagine noel gallagher getting involved in anything like that.

A Gallagher Brothers opera :D

I'd love them to do one. Just to laugh at how utterly shit it would be.

This is on at the moment in London, isn't it? Odd question, but has anyone been and did you see touts? My girlfriend would love a couple of tickets

And Wrysmile and I are going to see it!!! Have been stupid excited for the last week, and have wanted to go since the Chinese NY thing at the British Museum, where they performed a 30 minute 'highlights' set, and showed some of the Hewlett artwork (which is beautiful).

VER excited...

Tickets pretty much sold out from the ROH when they went on sale about 6 weeks ago...

Incidentally, if anyone on here has any tickets going or knows of any going then I don't have much cash at the moment, but I'd certainly be prepared to at least consider performing oral sex on you in exchange for those there tickets there.

Cheers, I saw that but I've got to work, tragically. Might just get her 2 tickets if I can find someone to go along.

Watch your seating on the cheaper tickets. Most of the £10 ones will have serverely restricted views. We've got £30-35 ones and they're up the top and off to the left. The £50 tickets are generally in the middle of the seating...

I've had a hit and miss record with £10 seats. They were great at the Old Vic and have been at Saddlers Wells but I've also had some bad views too elsewhere. At the moment, it's ten quid seats or no seats at all for me :(

i was just looking at the photo previews they give from various seating points - it looks like you wouldn't be able to see a big chunk of the stage from most of the seats left....
