Mogwai

What's the best Mogwai album?
To start with?

The compilation they released last year, Central Belters, was well put together and a good overview of their work.

As studio albums I'd say Mogwai Young Team and Mr Beast are good introductions. But as stavros says they haven't released a bad album.

Only seen them once, years ago Anson Rooms in Bristol, supported by Ligature and another nearly as forgettable band. Mogwai were great though. Just let it all wash over you. Cool. My favourite track is still that one where the guy is moaning about a band member or producer or someone who walked out. Will have a go at this new one. .

I really like Mogwai. They have a bar in Berlin called Das Gift (Poison). They serve Haggis, Macaroni Cheese, Stowford Press and Walker's Crisps. On a Monday night they do a pub quiz so if you've gotten too leathered at Berghain all weekend you can find a nice little home there. They also do prosecco for three quid a glass. I always make an effort to visit when I'm in town :)

Mr Beast is the only one I don't play regularly. Don't know why, I guess it just never grabbed me quite like the others did when it came out, so hasn't stuck in my head as a brilliant album.

I've been listening to Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will tons lately. We've got tickets for the last date of the tour in Glasgow in December and I'm really looking forward to it

i was just thinking that this could replace CO, DY as my favourite. That is going to be one storming gig, you lucky, lucky bastard.

Well, I got the new album on Friday and listened over the weekend.

It's erm Mogwai. I mean by that it has all of the component parts of a Mogwai album - bangers, slow melancholic windswept brooders, one with vocals, shades of light and dark etc etc but it left me cold.

I don't know if the formula is one of diminishing returns and they need a radical reboot or if I am just Moggers jaded.

Views?

It's a bit mogwai isn't it? Been trying to get the mental energy to play it again but failing.
