Mogwai

Has anyone else downloaded the new album from soulseek yet? First listen hasn't impressed me at all...will give it time though.

Aarrrghh!! I suddenly got all excited about the ICA gigs, then just as quickly found they are sold out. :(

If any kind person has spares and would rather sell to a fan at cost + some extra for the hassle, rather than doing the ebay touting thing, then I'd be very very grateful.

I think 'Mr Beast' is rather good. It's a nice blend of the smoothness of 'Happy songs' and the raw Mogwai we know and love. I like it. Reminds me of a better version of 'Rock Action.' I don't see the comparisons with early Mogwai to be honest. Some cracking stuff on it. :)

(how did i manage to miss this thread first time round?)

Mogwai are superb, not heard the new album though. Only saw them a pathetic once, couple of weeks ago at the Arches.

Young Team will stay with me til I die.

GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEOR, ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION, PINK FLOYD AND RADIOHEAD ARE THE LOUDEST BANDS I'VE HEARD...altho some jungle nights would eclipse them

Nice guys too. I got drunk and hurled abuse at them at a gig in North Carolina in 2001. They not only didn't call me a wanker, but they all signed my Celtic shirt at the end of the show.

:)

mr beast

i downloaded their new alb few weeks back. have since discovered that the track 'friend of the night' which sounds like it's skipping all the way through is actually NOT supposed to be. but it sounds fucking cool!

anyone else got this version? makes the normal one sound quite boring..

Yeah I have that. I thought the same.

I also like mogwai, why are we talking mogwai?

I totally forgot they existed for like 5 years and have just re-discovered them, it is great, like finding a hidden but perfectly preserved stash of drugs somewhere unexpected while doing ironing or something

I sometimes feel like that about Sigur Ros :)

Mogwai are barry. I've seen them live twice, once at a memorial gig for a mutual musician friend, on the same lineup as Sheena Wellington which was rather surreal  and just recently at a showing of the Mark Cousins film 'Atomic' which they did the soundtrack for, they showed the film on a big projection screen above them and they played the soundtrack live. They're really excellent live, if a little ear-bleeding.
