Modern Malnutrition in the UK

Maybe I've missed something, but you can buy veg like carrots very cheaply in Aldi. In fact eating fresh veg is a pretty cheap way to live. Salad potatoes, onions and what ever is discounted. I'm not saying people should have to live so hand to mouth but part of this seams to stem from lack of education which suprised me that you'd self diagnose on this stuff_it.
It's pretty sad but I actually live next door to Lidl. I didn't when I got ill though, and the centre of Birmingham is a bit less forgiving when you don't always have time to walk to the market as it shuts, etc.

So stuff_it , how are you feeling? If you've been upping your vitamin C hopefully your symptoms have abated?
Yes, about 100,000 times better, rash nearly gone, no fresh bruising, etc.

All the stuff they've tried so far boosts his vit d a bit, but not enough so that the med in question doesn't expel/leach most of it away. :(
IIRC he already takes calcitriol for his psoriatic arthritis.
I know it sounds daft but don't you need sunlight to metabolise vitamin D? Wouldn't daylight and/or some sort of phototherapy help?

If you're struggling to get enough Vit C, then try kiwi fruit. It's got the highest amount of vitimin C of any fruit, IIRC, and it's about 15p a fruit which gets you 100% of your GDA.

It doesn't help because he can't retain it once it's metabolised for long enough to do its' job, sadly.
I have Vit D deficiency took them five years to diagnose it and it was only after I heard a radio program listing the symptoms and a light came on,that's it. I was being treated for ME at the Maudsley at the time.My problem is a bit different my body doesn't process it well so I need a higher intake.
The calcium and Vit D (horse) tablets they provide on the NHS are crap the Vit D is too low (I know it's possible to have too much Vit D but those levels are at least twenty times higher than most people take) there is a German brand which has 20,000 iu per capsule but it's off prescription but that only means the doctor needs to know about it and then they can still prescribe it.
The knowledge about Vit D deficency amongst most GP,s is appalling they just don't know about it.For instance most people would benefit from 4,000 iu a day (keeping in mind probably 70% of people in a line above Vancouver,NY and London are probably deficient).
I'd suggest your friend looks at the Vit D council website (yank) and get in touch with them if they have questions.( I'm saying that because of their circumstances and also because it's necessary to take other supplements at that same time to ensure you get the most benefit)

Cheers, mate! :)
