Mobile phone/PDA reccomendations

I swear by my Sony Ericsson P900, I think they have released the 910i after I bought mine.

Its a phone-sized PDA-hybrid that synchronises perfectly with Outlook, GPRS and a camera. I almost went for one of those O2 phones, but wanted something small and pocked sized, but still enjoy the benefits of a large'ish screen and webfunctionality. Heck, I even check my PMs on this little thing! Would buy it again if it got stolen, lost or wrecked.

I like the design and interface of the P90/10i but its specs are a little weak...saying that i've heard they're going to release a new version called (unsurprisingly) the P950 that will have a 1mp camera, better video recording, faster cpu, more memory, blackberry push technology and quite possibly wifi (the lack of that last one is what's kept me away from the P900 series).

Wots push?
It's what Blackberries have. Basically, it's more like a text than normal email; messages gets "pushed" to your phone so you get them immediately, rather than when you check your mail. You need a server that does that though so it's not much good to me.

But I've never really understood the big deal about push - couldn't you just set normal phones/PDAs to check POP once every sixty seconds?

I’m not sure, it depends what kind of download speeds you can get from the mobile. Also I’m not sure it will be worth it because the data cost will probably cost more than just phoning from the mobile.
Ooh, yes, I know, you're right, it would be madness to try using Skype over GPRS in an attempt to save money! No, I'm only thinking of using Skype when I'm in range of WiFi (either at home or in cafe, etc).

Has anyone used an Push-To-Talk phones in the UK? Does anyone know whether youd' be able to communicate between PTT in UK and PTT in US?

Treo support push to talk, btw.

The Orange Talk Now service is powered by Kodiak's Real-Time Exchange (RTX) System, which enables an entirely new category of Advanced Voice Services, including PTT, with offerings that include:

* Instant Availability - Ability to see who's available to receive a call
* Instant Calling - Real-time "Push to Talk" calling
* Instant Conferencing - Real-time conferencing with up to 10 members of a group
* Instant Contact Management - Create contact and group distribution lists directly on the handset, and than contact them all at once:

Well, you could save up to 60 seconds of time! But, more seriously, it takes a while to check email on a phone and if you're doing something else it would interrupt it. It would also eat your battery up. Push is more efficient.

Push To Talk is the most fantastically irritating thing imaginable, and should be illegal, incitement to riot. Instead of one arsehole shouting into his phone, you get an arsehole, a loud "BEEEP" when he changes over, and some other arsehole shouting out of the speaker. And for some reason they always shout, never just talk.

Yeah X pointed that out to me..but you're idea is pretty damn cool though, first time i've heard of it.
:)

Actually, I posted my earlier posts on this thread quite a few months ago and since then I have read a couple of articles by people saying they have done it, so it looks like I have a reasonable chance of success!

Yeah, it's weird that you can't seem to get headsets or anything.

Just to answer my own question: some types of iPaq and other pocket PCs have bluetooth, but don't have the bluetooth headset built into it for some reason. If you have the right type of PPC, you can download http://www.pocketkai.de/en Kai's bluetooth fix (or something) from that website and "force" your PPC to recognize the headset. It sounds more complicated than it is, and I think it's working for me now!
