That vase.
Here we go then - 10 'superstar' djs going head to head for your approval... you've got 2 weeks to listen and vote.

Some contributors have thus far failed to send me a description of their mix - i can't be arsed doing it myself, so please PM me asap and I'll edit it. also let me know about any broken links...

The mixes will also be playing on the urban radio station for the next few weeks, so have a listen on there if you can't be bothered downloading them...

The mixes are:

1: Dirty Covers and desperate measures

It seems odd in the days when artists who have only ever had a minor hit live in the lap of luxury, that once upon a time even internationally famous artists, (some the leading exponents in their genre) were forced to try just about anything (often against their better judgement)to attempt to regain a crumb of commercial success.
In the late 60s/early 70s many established r&b/ blues artists struggled to sell records (ironically as derivative rock bands flourished) so were forced to try their hand at psych/ funk/ soul/ country/ jazz with pretty interesting (if not occasionally chaotic) results.

2: Mashup

Starts off with a bit of mashed up pop music, turns into some heavy jungle bizzness, and then chills the fuck out and goes into some nice dubstep to finish off

3: Smoked out beats to breakbeat treats

4: Post-Ambient Fuzz

An exquisite journey through the realms of postambient-neominimal-dronestep-fuzzcore

5: 39 Minutes Without Hardcore

Taking you through dubstep, hip-hop and techno with glee, this one gets you nodding. Slap it on and feel the bass, bounce yourself, wobble your bones and enjoy!

6: The Magnificent Seven-Inch

A magnificent mixture of marvellous seven inch singles, from my box of delights. Gasp at the gorgeous music, sigh at the sweet sweet lyrics and let your emotions roll away on an express train ride of excitement, with old acquaintances and friends for company

7: "War and Peace Mix"

...a back to 2001 DnB Odyssey

8: a little bit of this, a little bit of that

It starts with banjos and ends with skanking. You'll just have to listen to see where it goes inbetween. Done in one take. Strictly vinyl. Strictly shonky!

9: Sunburned Teeth

Reverb, giddy & lush

10: Playback: Funky Bollywood

a mash-up of hindi pop with funk, soul, R&B, rock & roll, jazz... the recording quality isn't always brilliant, which is a combination of indian vinyl pressing being a bit less than perfect and the records themselves sometimes being in crappy condition - but the excellence of the songs always shines through though.

By tommorow, all these mixes will be streaming on the u75 radio station - check the radio forum for details:

nice one ska - simple question with (i hope) a reasonably simple answer - will there be any easy way to identify which mix is playing at any particular time?

i'd much rather listen vis u75 radio that d/l'ing 10 different mixes. (no.1 is 80% done after 30 mins, i'll be here all week if i have to do them all at this speed).

The second mix starts to stream ok but only lasts for 4 seconds - is this an error or intentionally humorous?
the guilty party has been pm'd. hope to have their mix up tonight...

paulie - if all goes according to plan, the mix name & number should appear on whichever player you're using as it plays.

Absolutely - each track will be ID, with the relevant info showing up in your player.

With a fair wind I'll have these playing on the radio from tommorow morning. Takes a while to upload them to the server. I'll leave them playing for at least a week after the poll closes too... :)

*Listening on the radio over a few days means some mixes might grow on you after a couple of listens...

...dont mean to throw a spanner in the works, but it might be nice to extend the voting deadline up a bit from two weeks ... or not! There may be a clear winner anyhow...just a thought

just uploading the mixes to u75radio and having a quick listen - sounding great the lot of them - nice variety - good work!

I'm getting error messages when I attempt to download the Magnificent Seven Inch Mix?

It's on mediafire - and I'm not having any trouble downloading any of the other mixes on mediafire which makes me think the problem is not at my end?

i just d/l'd it and it all went fine, just over 3 minutes

People, what was so hard about sticking to 45minutes? Making a 45min mix is a completely different art to an hour or a 90min one or whatever, how are they supposed to be comparable if they're not all confined to the same parameters ? OK I'm being curmudgeonly, and some leeway is blatantly appropriate, but like +30% isn't really right IMO.
Nevermind, I've enjoyed what I've been hearing so far, which is what really counts
</grumble>

clearly not. obviously i'm going to win this time.

just fired up urban radio - cracking idea, reckon i can get through a few of them tonight. the current selection is pretty rulin'...

i just make the rules, people are free to ignore them i guess. no point in getting pissed about it though - 10 mixtapes is an excellent response. i'm well chuffed.

hope some fucker votes soon anyway... :hmm:

guess there is a lot to get through...

i have actually listened to them all once now, had tuesday afternoon off work :o

but am planning to go thru my favs once more to pick a winner.

have to say i'm enjoying being able to go and check which the songs i like are. something you proles won't be able to do for the next 2 weeks... :p

tbh it's surprisingly trauma free... it's not that difficult to start a couple of threads: it's been maybe an hours work altogether.

any favourites yet? i'm favouring 1 & 5 at the moment...
