Mistakes in published work - who do you blame?

I felt the fear and did it anyway. I've emailed him. At least he can point it out to the reviewer for the local paper who seems to enjoy winding me up at the best of times   :D
Nice one, and if he doesn't show it to the reviewer, you can always show it to him yourself!

I've worked in publishing for 20-odd years, doing everything from bindery work, camera work, typesetting, proofreading, editing, and computer/technical work. I've seen a definite decline in the quality of books. I think this is due to the gradual removal of the editor and proofreader from the process. There are some books that are entirely edited by their author. Its also due to the fact that it is a much faster process than it used to be. We used to take three or more months in the preparation of a book for press. Now we do the same prep work in a couple of weeks. We used to do 1.5 million volumes a year. Now we do 4.5 million volumes with the same number of workers. We used to print at 20,000 dpi. Now we print at 1,200. There's just no craftmanship.
