Minister walks out of muslim wedding

Follow-up story from today's Telegraph: -

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...r-hijacking-Muslim-wedding-by-bridegroom.html

Turns out the bride is an investment banker, and the groom is the director of a training company, so perhaps Fitz was striking a blow for the class. :)

Mr Islam, the director of a training company, said: “I didn't let the IFE dictate to me or tell me what to do. Neither they, Mr Fitzpatrick, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia or the Pope has a right to tell me and my wife what to do.

“I am not part of the forum and neither is my wife. We liked the religious service, we paid for it, that's it.”

:D

You're the one that brought sexism into it. You're the one that is completely fucking clueless about muslim weddings and mosques. You're the one that attacks me when I criticise Fitz.

So, let's be clear. You think that Fitz was right or not?

How the fuck am I clueless about muslim weddings and mosques, or rather how the fuck am I clueless in relation to what we are discussing? I'm well aware of the segregation of men and women in mosques, I have kind of noticed seperate entrances on them. The fact that the segregation is not simply restricted to a kind of wedding tradition but is an everyday part of Islamic worship only reinforces it's sexist nature, it isn't simply a quaint relic in the way a father "giving away" his daughter is.

I don't attack you for criticising Fitz, I think you are spot on about the political point scoring and the negative effect this will have in the area,I said as much in an earlier post. What I took issue with was the notion that everything was honky dory and bringing up such issues per se is just causing unneccesary trouble.

As for Fitz, well do I think he is right that segregationist weddings are reactionary shite? Yes. Would I go to such a wedding and be segregated from my female guest, fuck no I wouldn't. Do I think Fitz is seeking to political gain out of this? Yes. Do I think he is in no position to criticise considering his voting history and the fact he is a minister in a government which has bombed the shit out of Iraq and Afghanistan? Yes.

But you do fucking whinge, that's exactly what you're doing. Ranty fucking tantrums. These fucking religions exist, get over it.

Fuck me pink, they exist, really?

And you're suggesting that I can't wish or rant them out of existance?:eek:

So the next time you are complaining about something, remind me to point this out to you too.

In truth this is just a pathetic response from someone who hasn't got an argument, the equivalent of someone responding to criticisms of capitalism and wage labour with "well it exists and all your rants and long diatribes will do nothing to stop it."

So we more or less agree then :D

GOVERNMENT minister Jim Fitzpatrick took time off from the week's controversy over walking out of a Muslim wedding to spend time in his East London constituency unveiling a minibus for a 'neighbours' charity.

The Poplar & Caning Town Labour MP, who has been under fire in a row about refusing to be segregated from his wife at the East London Muslim Centre last Sunday, took refuge on the Isle of Dogs for the bus presentation.

He was with his wife Sheila (pictured far right) to officially hand over the minibus to Sister Christine Frost (centre) for her Neighbours in Poplar charity.

The bus has been paid for by a £26,000 grant from Isle of Dogs Community Fund, using 'planning gain' cash from developers who have changed the face of Docklands in the 40 years Sister Christine has run her 'neighbours' organisation.

If he's not walking out of Muslim weddings, he's giving minibuses to nuns.

What's more interesting is how executives and investment bankers invite MP's they have no personal connection with to their wedding and said MP's would attend. It's almost like they are both looking to get something out of it, unfortunately for the happle couple of middle class cunts, the scummy MP thought there was more to gain out of going to the papers about the seating arrangments.:D

Innit. White MP gets to hang with the vibrants in his constituency; middle class ethnics get an MP at their wedding. It's a win-win. Or not. :D

All fucking weddings are like that though man. Extend family politics into parliamentary politics and you double the trouble.

I do fucking wonder if people forget that these are social contracts first and foremost. Yeah Islam and the religionist shit comes into it, but that's a setting for what's going on and takes a backseat in the scheme of things. It's all about arranging marriages and class.

aye but that's what all religion is about, whether it's upholding the sanctity of the nuclear family, preaching respect of authority or the work ethic, or on the more micro level of facilitating the networking and social ladder climbing of middle class cunts.

When I worked at a hotel outside Larne I always knew it was a christian wedding by the number of flash cars outside.

maybe i'm just too lumpen but none of the weddings I've attended have been like that, it's generally a registry office, drinking, meal, drinking and embarrassing dancing to Steps.

Not hard to work out why religion is big (and profitable, and long lasting) business.

the flip side is of course that when the scripture starts taking to far a back seat to such concerns and the religious leaders seem closer to the establishment it creates a vacuum for fundamentalism, for people who do take their scripture seriously, who can see through the facade and who wish to make society bend to the word of god rather than let the word of god be bent to it.
