Mineral powders

i use the bare escentuals ones, they are flipping expensive but they dont use talc so that must be why. they do last a long time but im leaving them alone until i work out what caused my recent outbreak.it may well have been them you know because nothing else has changed.
oh yes, and i hate cleaning brushes, i avoid brushes at all costs so this method might not be for me:rolleyes:

I think they work better cos they're made of minerals. :D  Sorry, that wasn't the most illuminating explanation was it?

I did read a long article in Indian Vogue about them but it mostly just surprised me 'cos they were powdering up all these gems and semi-precious stones so that we might have better coloured eyeshadows!

That isn't to say I'm not interested in it, just that I'm mildly baffled by the concept. :)

How do they work? Are they really just powder and you use them instead of foundation?

I'm such a rubbish girl :(
I'm not sure how they work, i have never got on with powder as my skin feels caked and dry same with foundations, always gone with tinted moisturiser, these minerals blend the skin so it looks flawless yet naked, you cant tell you are wearing anything and only a small amount is needed, im really impressed.

I hate the heavy feel of foundation but been looking a bit washed out lately so invested in some mineral powders yesterday, £14 by l'oreal and i'm really impressed, i dont feel like im wearing anything but my complexion is now flawless, they must be good as i did one side of my face and asked my son if he could notice and he did :D
Anyone else tried them?

Great recommendation, I'm going to try this! Thanks! Was it hard to find the right shade though?

right, well i take it back. Ive been using my mineral foundation since you started this thread and it hasnt made me have more spots. my skin has been getting better actually :) hurrah

e2a: actually how do i clean y make up brush? ive never been one for make up brushes before so i have no idea how to clean them or dry them even. Its a natural bristle one, quite expensive and in need of a good clean, suggestions please :)

I use gentle shampoo and clean them by hand, bristles pointing downward and gently massaging the shampoo in. Try to avoid getting shampoo or water lodged up really high near, or within the bristle binding area. Rinse it really well, again, keep the bristles pointed downward in the water/tap flow and try not to get the binding area wet.

I then condition it using regular conditioner, and rinse it well again.

The really important thing is to let it dry with the bristles pointing DOWN. So I usually have to rig up my brushes by tying hair elastics around them and hanging them from something.

If you don't do this, the water will get into the binding and loosen any glue material that's being used to keep the bristles gathered.

i didnt realise that conditioning would be a good idea, thanks for that
do you think i should dry it a bit with the hairdryer? speed things up

You're welcome!
And no, natural drying only takes overnight : )

the sweet girly that does my facials says to use facial wipes, the kind that you use to take makeup off anyway - i haven't tried it so don't know for sure but just thought i'd mention it. the shampoo and conditioner method sounds much more thorough.

You all need killing in teh face.

This thread has been gnawing away at my brain for the past few weeks, so much so that the confirmed make-up-free sensible person in me has buckled and bought some of the lily lolo tester pot things.

I hate you all.

I gots me them in the post this morning. So far so almost good. One thing it's highlighted is the fact that my cleansing/moisturising ritual has become lax - my skin is dry! My skin has never been dry! My nose and cheeks are all flaky with this stuff on.

I need to stop thinking that my face will clean and moisturise itself and go back to looking after it again. An intense regime of cleanse/tone/decleor oil/moisturise every morning and night is in order I think. Oh, and a good exfoliation every couple of days too.

As for the colours, I ordered testers of the 3 lightest shades, and they all seem ok (I'm very pale), but I've just ordered the next 2 darker shades just in case in sunlight or artificial light I look like a ghost lol.

I got eyeshadow too.

My god - what are you doing to me? I'm an earth mother, I don't wear make up!

It's minerals though! that's earth mother...

I found my shameful flakey skin showed. So I couldn't be bothered (never sure about powders) and I'm using tinted moisturiser. I do get out a little yellow powder at times for correcting.

True, true - but it's hard to square the earth mother natural minerals with the "I will not bow down to the consumer image of women in make up" views I've held for so long.

Flaky skin be damned - I'll pwn it into submission - it will not get the better of me

I spent about a year recently without hair dye and ignoring my make up collection. It didn't feel right though. So I comprised and teamed my red lipstick with hairy pits. :o :D

lol :D

I'll mostly be teaming a touch of eye shadow and some face powder with hairy pits from now on then :p

I refuse to dye my hair. I used to periodically use a semi-permanent dark brown or reddish brown dye, then moved on to henna, but now I cannot be arsed with the faff.

Bah, I'm far too suggestible. I read this thread yesterday and have just come back from Boots with the L'Oreal version.

You won't regret it. It's truly fab. :D

Thread resurrection ahoy!

I'm sold on the Lily Lolo stuff. The 'Blondie' foundation seems the perfect shade for me. I've just got a little tester of the green cover up, because my dehydrated too-much-chocolate skin is a bit red and blotchy at the moment (inherited also – my mother has rosacea and I'm going that way big time now I'm over the hill), tried a bit on the back of my hand and it hasn't made my turn green (unlike some green powder I bought from Boots 15 years ago and everyone used to laugh at me for).

I love their eye shadows, especially the pale shimmery ones. Just bought a couple of new ones, including the matte black one to rock some serious smoky moody eyes :p The eye shadows look like they'll last forever too. I've been using the green opal one all the time and I can't even tell the level's gone down at all. Oh, and I only bought a couple of testers of the foundation powder, and I'm still on the first one. It seems they go a long way.

I don't really rate it much - I can't tell the difference between mineral foundation and normal face powder.

The L'Oreal ones are especially bad because of the stupid brushes that come with them. The one I got was too dark and I thought I'd mix it in with my normal powder and I spent ages shaking it out through the crappy little holes.

I tried some but they irritated my eyes really badly for some reason.......walked down the street and tears were dripping off the end of my chin !

Thread resurrection ahoy - again.

I don't wear make-up, except maybe a bit of mascara occasionally, mainly because my skin's dry so foundation looks shit.

However, I caved in and have ordered loads of samples from various websites.

I already have Lily Lolo and Everyday Minerals which I'm testing.

Haven't quite got the hang of being extremely light-handed with them yet. I have noticed that they seem to make my pores look larger.

What I've also noticed is that my face isn't itching as much as it normally does (when I'm not even wearing make-up).

I've ordered samplers from another 4 different manufacturers :D

How often do I post about make-up? NEVER

and yet when I finally pluck up the courage to come into a make-up thread, I'm ignored

Sod the lot of you over made-up tarts then :mad:
