Milburn makes bid for PM

Even if C Flint came round to my house and sat on my face as a method of persuasion I still wouldn't vote New Labour. Even though the Tories have problems they sadly are still the only way of ridding ourselves of the curse of NL.

what if hazel blears came around?

Cos if labour lose, that'll validate your voting for Boris like the self-serving git you are, won't it? :p

Its not self serving to want to be rid of this bunch of incompetant authoritarian clowns.

Its sad that it will take a Tory govt to reform Labour and make it more responsive to peoples needs.

And on what evidence base do you make this assertion? I agree with what you've said, but this strikes me more as Kaka Tim's wishlist rather than any kind of evidenced 'what the voters (or those who can be bothered to vote) want'.

Becasue they are polices that would have a large base of support becasue they would improve the lives of many people - like the millions of people in need of social housing, struggling to meet fuel bills on getting by on the minimum wage.

These are the people who Nu-labour have abandoned and who consequnetly have become utterly disilluiosned and disengaged with the polictical process.

Any sustainable future for the Labour party (or the left in general) has got to start with building from the bottom up and working towards a decentralised, communtiy based, empowering model of democratic socialism.

I have absolutely no hope that the Labour party will do this - rather is will contuinue on its journey of corporate whoredom until it wither and dies.

Also these polices would be very unpoplar with the rich and powerful and their large media organisations. They would also have limited appeal to small number of middle income voters in marginal seats who swing elections and who all three parties tailor their poilcies to.

THe result is a political system that is not fit for purpose, that is utterly unrepresentative and disempowering, that breed cynicism and apathy and is totally unresponsive to peoples needs - unless your name is Mr Rupert Murdoch.

Evidence of this, which was my point. You're assuming that because there is a social need for it there would be a widespread base of support for it, I merely ask for evidence to support your assertion, the core of which I don't disagree with - that need exists I just don't think it translates into either the numbers or or the votes you think it would.

Well I would guess the many people who would benefit from these policies would be in favour of them - but TBH I haven't run it past the focus group. Weather it would get them to go out and vote labour is another matter - but they sure as shit will not be voting for more of the same.

"And i don't think it's because they're too timid or scared to challenge big business, it's because they poltically disagree with all those policies. They're not pretending or being opportunistic when they reject them"

Yep - and the remnants of 'old' labour and the TUC have been deluding themselves for years that this is not the case - when its blindingly obvious.

They are a neo-liberal party following a neo-liberal agneda that is little differnt from the tories or lib dems. All that remains of labours 'socailism' is an enthusiasm for authortarian social engineering.

no all that remians is a love of authoritarianism ( this is in keeping with the views of a lot of urbanities i would say none really seem to be really bothered by the rise of totalitarian britain there problem is that is not there type of totalitarianism) unless you mean the type of social engineering which see the likes of sassaforratso get richer

Funny innit that Brown got where he was when Blair was virtually overthrown by an MPs revolt and oh look he faces the same situation. Sounds like the Labour party of the eighties or the tory party of the nineties.
