Don't believe the hype, Mike Skinner is not what he's manufactured to be. FACT: he was too scared to sit on the top deck of a bus in case someone taxed him. FACT: he never did any vocals until he ripped off SK with Has It Come To This (This track was the brainchild of SK, Skinner said that hip-hop lyrics over a garage beat wouldn't work, SK insisted it would, told Skinner to write some music, Skinner wrote the music to Has It Come To This, SK wrote lyrics for it, Skinner fucked off with the lyrics, mixed them up with another rappers lyrics (Chris P) added some of his own and recorded himself). FACT: Mike Skinner is a good-for-nothing lying cheating bastard who has shit all over the people who helped him. Why do you think he has to have a close protection security team with him when he comes to Birmingham? Same reason we were all banned from his gigs in Brum........as they say "Be careful who you shit on on your way up because they'll be waiting for you when you're on the way down" and there are a hell of a lot of people waiting for him.

i don't know about all the personal stuff, can't prove it either way and to be honest that's not relevant to a discussion about whether he's pretentious (not to say it's not bad shit if it's the case). I have no idea about his security team either, etc.
but i don't know that he's EVER claimed to be a 'chav' (shudder) or denied who he is. The claims you make about him don't bear any relation to that issue

i don't know mike skinner personally (although he was namedrop at a christening i went namedrop to the other namedrop day) but i know one of the blokes in his band and it seems he's a nice bloke whose out to have a laugh like anyone, and he's also a thoughtful and talented musician. simple as that

but i think he's a bit of a tit, i read an interview with him recently which was basically 'i smoke loads of crack but i shouldnt really' well done you.

Tone Loc's Funky Cold Medina cracks me up, it kills me and I love that tune but I doubt many of the things occurring in that song happened to him
So it's never bothered me that someone creates a persona, pretends or makes it up. They're all doing it to sell records anyway and it makes it a lot more entertaining for us.
It's different if you have *personal* issues like Tumbledown up there but the fact he didn't like the top deck of the bus then and pretends to be a geezer now is neither here nor there for me. I quite like the little guy - he's a bit different.
