Mike Skinner sells his soul to Reebok

If I was famous, I would endorse all the products I use to make as much money as possible and retire early. Only cool stuff though, like Budvar lager and Merrell shoes. I'd keep my Reebok wearing a secret.

also 50p with his 'can't believe (cunts) did a deal with a psycho' lyric is quite pathetic but clever on his part and a dream for the cunts - still don't make it right.

I don't understand this

are you referring to 50 pence, the artist?

yes sd, i am
that's one of his lyrics from a recent (last year?) tune

really? I know 50 pence (family friend), and didnt realise he had released anything since 'In the Pub'.

I get the feeling im missing something here, but what relevance does 50 pence have to Mike Skinner?

(sorry to appear as if im name dropping etc, but it really surprises me somone else has heard of 50 pence)

no sd i meant 50cent was just taking the piss, sorry didn't know that there was a 50p although i have that in the pub tune on mp3 somewhere

We live in society where what is 'cool' is a top-down corporate idea - it is not organic and it doesn't come up from the streets, man.

Not true. Classics have been marketed as such for a few years, but (and this goes for any sub-culture identified with a particular trainer or any other brand) people on the streets man  decided what these "running shoes" were for ages ago, and co-opted them for themselves. In that way Reebok has had to spend shitloads catching up on the reality. Sounds more like bottom-up than top-down to me.

There really is some shite being spouted on this thread...

to criticise someone for doing something that musicians have done for centuries shows a real lack of knowledge about the history of music and art generally.

Ain't that the truth, ruth? :)

So you are denying any link then between advertising and fashion?

Edit: Nice of you to join us so late. Welcome to the thread but please don't quote old posts out of context from the rest of the debate.

Edit again: So what advertising agency do you work for then?

no, I'm not denying a link. That'd be stupid. Whatever gave you that idea?

I'm new here, so how should I reply to old posts that intrigue me? Is it a rule or summat

Me? Work? For an advertising agency? hahahahaha!! No, I just agree with kyser despite hating coke and loving bill hicks.
btw: Noticed this thread getting uglier and more personal venom being spat at him as it went along. :(
