Mike Skinner: chav geezer or urban legend?

He's OK and both albums are fairly solid, but neither are as good as Dizzee's debut or Wiley or Kano's albums. There is better UKG-linked stuff out there but Skinner is a lot more marketable to the mainstream public because he's almost painted as someone half-mocking the scene. Also he voice sounds to me quite smug and whereas as a great hallmark of hip hop and its relatives is its egotism, his just doesn't sound as good to me. A Brummie accent doesn't sound as good as a Afro-London accent.

So in conclusion, OK but overrated.

regionalist

I seem to have missed all the fighting!

However... I think Mike Skinner is a goddamn genius, myself. I love both albums and think he's the best lyricist since someone very good. He's a bit of a chav, but hey, who isn't? ;)

Agreed

The word CHAV has become too commonplace now- it's inflicted on white rude boys and girls that like a bit of bling.

Mike Skinner's always just been a *geezer*

'Has it come to this' was a really innovative single when it came out and so refreshing. Instead of slagging someone off for their supposed 'commercialism' why not applaud their talent for once? :o

I used to call people chavs and laugh at them, but then I realised I like loads of 'chav' music and wear lots of cheap sparkly jewellery, and that laughing at people isn't generally that nice, so I've stopped now. Innit. ;)
