Nice to see this has'nt turned into a ganged-up personal spat....

right.

so several people disagree with you and they're ganging up? has it not occurred to you that singly and in our own way each of us think you're talking rubbish?

I'd start with a few threads in P&P...there's a reason he's seen as a joke in there...but yeah, name a few of the 'artists' you consider to be sufficiently princlipled RICO.

Nah, how about you fuck off?

Now, sticking with Hip hop...

Run DMC - acknowledged as among the orignators and Godfathers of Hip-hop. So by anyone's standards would qualify as talented and original, no?

Did the song 'My Addidas' signify them selling out?

If you stop lying about people and making up stuff about them being racists, then changing your name to avoid having to face up to it i might consider it.

Handy that you can now strop off without naming anyone isn't it?

A murder victim wasn't it?

Like stalking me, eh?

In general, I'm with Dub and Kyser and poet largely ... from my limites knowledge of Mike Skinner that is :o

I think RICO's talking total and complete cobblers in this thread, but why bring up shite from another thread -- presumably P and P? -- that only a fraction of other people (reading this one) will have seen?

It's incomprehensible! (to many)

Besides, if what you're saying's right, RICO's not the ONLY person to fling around groundless accusations of racism on these forums ;)

What's the point? This thread has turned into one big pisstake.

Hardly - you've made an utterly fatuous statement about 'selling out' and 'principled musicians' and how commercial interests and music (and for my money that extrapolates to all art forms) destroy the credibility of both the artist and their work.

And you've had counter-arguments and now we're awaiting your reply to the points we've made.

THat's how debate works.

Because he brought up his astonishing untarnished 'principles' - and in a self-congratulatory manner. It just made me sick. I wish i hadn't said anything now as he's going to use it as an opp to avoid answering any other questions - he's good at that. Still, at least it's clear that his bullshit is being immediatley seen through by others who may not have come across it before.

Nice one - lets make this personal, shall we?

In an ideal world, shit would'nt be dragged from other threads, and we'd all have a nice little discussion. I've made my point, I've been called a "fucking idiot", little points scoring has started, and that it. I'm off. For good.

Good bye everyone, its been (mostly) enjoyable.

you've yet to answer R.I.C.O my non personal entirely relevant question about if someone offered you £100,000 to do an ad would you do it? As you don't want to answer the other q's hows about you answer that one?

Oh! Does that mean I'm in a clique now? Hurrah! ;)

Seriously now Ted, I dunno about this R.I.C.O chap, but on this thread alone, he does seem to be fond of talking nonsense. I have no personal beef with him, so no personal spat with me, I think.

But anyway, isn't this getting horribly OT?

*edited to add* aww...and he's gone now. :(

Our middle son had a real thing about Dry Your Eyes when it came out, which was quite mad considering he was 4.

This has made be predisposed to like Mr Skinner, although I know FA about him.

He's OK and both albums are fairly solid, but neither are as good as Dizzee's debut or Wiley or Kano's albums. There is better UKG-linked stuff out there but Skinner is a lot more marketable to the mainstream public because he's almost painted as someone half-mocking the scene. Also he voice sounds to me quite smug and whereas as a great hallmark of hip hop and its relatives is its egotism, his just doesn't sound as good to me. A Brummie accent doesn't sound as good as a Afro-London accent.

So in conclusion, OK but overrated.
