Mikado

I only came to this thread because I thought it was a G & S thread in the wrong forum (no TV, so no advert awareness therefore no idea this was about a biscuit).

the ad bothers me, like it's trading on western cliched ideas about allegedly "warped" Japanese sexuality. A salaryman and a cutesy officegirl supposedly photocopying her knickers.

Shippy probably has that manga.

It's based on an ad for copier toner originally made for Japan, by a Japanese agency. It's also been copied (ha!) for a paper company who advertise only in Asia.

First discovered them years ago, on holiday in France. I can assure you they're kiddie crack, too. ;)

I'm sure Mikado have been around in the UK for years? I remember seeing them in the supermarket when I was a kid...am I fake-remembering things?

A similar thing happened with Oreos, they've been around in the UK for about 10 years, and only last year they became popular with the ads and everything.

Personally, I think Pocky and Mikado are the same o_O maybe it's because the name "Mikado" is more recognisable in the UK?

they were marketed in europe ages ago brifly made an appearence over here disapeared and are now back again

and it's not a matter of thinking... they are pocky a variant of pocky yes but pocky none the less they are made under licence
