Tried it out on one of my desktops, and sometimes use Compiz Fusion under Gutsy at the moment - although I think they're wrong to enable it by default, as AFAIC it's nowhere nearly stable enough - many users still experience crashes daily.
Some of Beryl/Compiz is just eye candy, but some of the functionality (particularly WRT to virtual desktop switching) is really useful. My advice is to disable all the blingy animations and replace them with simple fades or what have you.
That said, I imagine I'll switch to using bog standard kwin once they add their AIGLX gizmometers.
If this thread gets any more </derail> tags it'll refuse to render...
