Microsoft's next generation console, the Xbox 360, will cost $299 (£209) when it goes on sale at Christmas.

The company announced the price at the German Games Convention in Leipzig.

A more expensive version costing $399 (£279) will include a 20GB hard drive, wireless controller, headset and remote control.

I really don't get why anyone would want to buy the cut down version tbh but it's nice to see it coming in under £300! :D

Yep! All I gotta do is find a way to stop Random One killing me for getting yet another gadget (and my fifth games machine!)! :D

Xbox 360 without hard drive won't be backwards compatible?

Hmmmm....

According to US games blog Joystiq, the "core" lower-price £210 version of the Xbox 360 won't play Xbox games out of the box. An anonymous tipster has told the blog that the feature requires the hard drive to be installed. Which makes the £280 version even more appealing. And makes Microsoft's decision to release two versions of the 360 that much more questionable.

Well, that makes sense. Xbox1 games use the hardrive. Core version doesn't have one.

OI! I posted this first dammit! :mad:

<shakes fist>

*mutters to him self about people not using the search before posting a thread*

a lot of people are saying that they are gonna wait till ps3 and nintendo announce their prices before dishing out the coin for the new xbox.

some people will even wait till all 3 systems are out before purchasing 1.

myself i've been a fan of xbox over ps3... but i dunno if i can wait till ps3 is released. i really do want the better system you know...

but i have faith in microsoft to deliver a powerful console.

Maybe its because of those people waiting that MS decided to tempt them with a cut down version and cheaper price?
