Microsoft 'Origami' miniTablet PC coming up?

editor

hiraethified
Apparently leaked early, Microsoft look set to launch a "mini TabletPC" with USB host functionality, built-in GPS, wireless access, Bluetooth, games capability and the ability to tap into an existing Windows Media Center based PC to playback music/video from anywhere around your home.

Digital pics can be downloaded straight on to the device from the camera

To see a way slick video presentation go to:http://www.d-kitchen.com/launch_center.htm

Click "Enter" on the pop-up, click “Work,” then click on "BrandTheatre." From there, click "Microsoft Origami" and you're away....

It looks interesting....

Awfuly kind of you to help Microsoft's marketing by linking to this viral for them.
Don't be a twat. It's major new product and a new form factor that should be of interest to anyone who has an interest in new technology.

If that's not you, then move along.

The options you get in there for microsoft are

Microsoft bank of the future
Microsoft Athens
Microsoft Spot
Microsoft Harmony
Microsoft Unioson

No Origami option :(

I saw it last night, looked quite cool but I wish it was Apple Mac! I reckon they've taken it down cause it was using up too much bandwidth from being linked to off forums; it's just an ad agency site showing off a portfolio and probably doesn't usually get many hits.

Currently there are rumours of an Apple Tablet coming soon-ish...

So whaddya reckon to the concept?
I quite like the rugged 'lob it in yer bag' construction suggested in the trailer and it's good to see something a bit different turning up...

I'm not convinced there's a market for it, especially at the sort of price this thing'll go for (probably ccloser to 1000 than 5000). I mean, who are they selling this to? There are alredy ruggedised laptops out there for the rough and tumble outdoors types. There are already PDAs for people who take things with them. I also can't imagine the battery lasting very long. GPS, WiFi and that fat screen will all suck batteries dry.

Well, battery life is going to be the big one, but I could see me using something like that for trips abroad where a PDA is too fiddly to keep up with my mail and I need something that I can browse the web on, update my site and dump digital images from my camera on to.

It might be a goer if it runs on windows CE instead of trying to be a fully fledged PC. My ancient CE notebook goes all day on a charge. All solid state, no moving parts (fitrs with the 'chuck it in a bag' mode) and lower power consumption. Combine with a dinky ARM processor and (maybe) an e-ink screen...

I think its a good idea for the tablet. If they get it right of course... All day battery was in the specification.
