Microsoft Office 2007 ['ultimate edition'? :hmm:] for 35 quid...?

ok - since i'm not quoady, how much can i expect to pay for msoft office?

i've always had dodgy copies before...:o

furiousness over docx can be avoided by clicking the miantain compaitibilty box when saving a document.

But how can you make it look exactly like Office 2003 ?

i.e. get all the normal menus back that served perfectly well for over a decade ?

It's almost like they have to change stuff to let you know they're "developing" the product.

I installed this a few weeks ago and its not so different really.

Its still the same old word with new style menu bar which I quite like. If nothing else I like the fact that MS had the balls to do it with the most common commercial word processor on the planet. They obviously think its worth the risk.

Outlook's front end is also an improvement. I like the todo bar on the right. OneNote, I wasn't sure what that was for, it kept a copy of everything I was printing and put files into directories I didn't need the files in. I uninstalled it.

At 35 quid you can't go wrong really. Its a great piece of software for that price.

if you want to use powerpoint avoid open office like the plague. Thier -presentation software is dire. By far the worst bit on the package.

do you think so? I've used OO for powerpoint type stuff and got on perfectly well with it. it may not have the range of 'clever stuff' that MS office has but then, for me, powerpoint presentations should be about content not (excessive amounts of ludicrous) style

Just got Office 2007 at work, it's OK once you get use to where to find stuff. Totally threw me at first even though we all had training in it. 'File menu.....file menu.....file menu.......where the fuck is the file menu??'

But even though it has that new ribbon thing, most of the 'boxes' on there have a little arrow doodah that brings up the menu as it was in Office 2003, which helps

I neeeeeeed powerpoint on my pooter. word i can probably manage without, cos notepad is okayish, and excel rarely comes up - but i'm getting an interactive whiteboard at work and i want to make pretty presentations.

try doing them on OO but remember to 'save as...' .ppt if you're doing the presentation on a PC at work; most workplaces don't have OO so the default file won't work with MS office (but i guess you knew that anyway)

Good news - as long as you don't want Access you can pick up MS Home and Student 2007 Edition for sixty notes on Amazon - Link. Or maybe cheaper on eBay? Contains Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote. 3 User Licence.

omfg.

OneNote is installed. It looks utterly awesome.

I can't imagine a more appropriate design for taking / excerpting notes and quotations from a library book... Particularly one with multiple chapters... Goodness me. And it's screenshot / screen clip capacity would seem to make it pretty easy to excerpt sections of pdfs to boot... Even the ones that're just scanned pages from old journals...

Well, that's what it's for!

I'm a bit of a freak for collecting note-taking apps on the Mac and I don't think I could survive without one on any platform now. (The downside is that you tend to collect vast quantities of utter crap as well if you're not careful.)

for any serious user of Excel its a huge improvement.

better graphing
larger worksheets
more complex nested calculations
deeper conditional formatting
more intuitive pivot tables
cleaner presentation

it does take some getting used to but its worth the effort.

I have just used PPT2007 to convert a file to PPT2003, and "save as" is not supplied on the toolbar - I had to add it.
I will be holding off using office 2007 till the very bitter end.

I bought the MS Office 2007 last year via that student deal and have to say, found it more usable than OO. The OneNote application is particularly useful for study notes etc. As long as you remember to save any docs in the 2003-2007 file format if you need to send them to someone else.
