Jolly good film, and all involved did fine work. And Axl Rose, Mickey's brother-in-ill-advised-plastic-surgery, got a thankyou for giving them the rights to use Sweet Child O' Mine for nowt. Which was nice of him.

Just watched this last night. It's one of the most harrowing films I've ever seen (and I'm not usually squeamish). There were parts where I found it really difficult to watch. I thought it was brilliant. Mickey Rourke is just absolutely perfect for it.

Everyone's saying this, but I'm not so sure. It's a really, really good performance, but there's so much of Mickey Rourke in Randy - the faded star who's pissed it away, the professional boxing/wrestling, the chance of one last comeback/redemption - I wonder how much of it acting, in the true sense of the word. A better, more nuanced performance, and one more worthy of an Oscar in my book, is Frank Langella's Nixon inFrost/Nixon. The Wrestler is a very good film, though.

I thought it was a rather hackneyed story (washed-up middle-aged man, stripper girlfriend, estranged daughter) brilliantly brought to life by Mickey Rourke. It was a really great performance and of course his physical appearance is perfect for the role. Wasn't all the plastic surgery to repair boxing injuries?

Marisa Tomei was excellent too.

Agree, except I don't think Marisa Tomei's performance was anything special tbh - certainly nothing exceptional that's worth an oscar nomination or anything like that.
