I'm not getting into a debate about Spiritualism on Urban75. All I said was that cold-reading and hot-reading combined, do not seem to completely explain mediumship.

Professor Archie Roy of Glasgow University published positive results. But parapsychology will not debunk mediumship because they would simply be out of a job. Therefore the double blind test results, which exist in favour of mediumship, cannot be taken seriously.

I understand how cold-reading works, and I agree that it's a common practice. The specific personal experience I've had could only be explained by hot-reading, which seems highly unlikely as the information was unambiguous and I was anonymous.

Seriously, I have looked at both sides of the argument surrounding Spiritualism and I generally agree with skeptical theories about mediumship. It is therefore annoying when information that is specific and shocking, blows the theories of cold/hot reading out of the water. I know that the theories are correct, as I've seen them in action. It's annoying that there is a white crow, despite all crows being black.

derren brown is clearly in the "it's all a trick to prise you from your £s" camp and does an excellent job of doing more amazing things than anyone i've seen out there while maintaining a scientific viewpoint.
