Mexican restaurants

Finally made it over to El Panzon at the Dogstar...

Fucking fantastic food. Definitely the best Mexican for the price available in London.

El Chico on Streatham High St. isn't half bad. Back in North America I'd consider it mediocre, but for London it's good stuff.

You're kidding me aren't you? The food's defintiely secondary in there to the novelty sombreros, the table dancing hostesses and the succession of birthday announcements, all using 50 Cent to shout 'it's your birthday'

Exceptionally tacky, but not without its charms. Food isn't great though.

Glad you liked El Panzon though. That place is a little bit of a find.

:)

Well, I'd thought it was okay for London. Simply because I'd not found *anywhere* in London that had any decent Mexican food before.

Now that I stand corrected, I can downgrade Streatham. :)

Do you have to eat in the main pub bit, or is there a restaurant bit upstairs? I'm quite keen to try the food, but I absolutely detest the Dogstar...

You have to eat in the main pub bit - which is what puts me off too. We went and had good food, but it was loud and smoky. :( I used to prefer it in the Hobgoblin bizarrely - not sure why.

Just go early in the evening and it's bearable, aside from Grant excitedly cornering you. I don't think they've got the upstairs restaurant bit open anymore, only for private functions.

Hurrah! A u75 thread about food that isn't making me hungry.

I'm totally not bovvered about Mexican.

As you were.

Me too. I miss him from the Hobgob too. He always sounds desperate to convince us that he's enjoying the Dogstar too.

Sadly, with summer going, they've both missed out capitalising.

:(

Out of curiosity has anyone ever been to Bandido's in Herne Hill? I love Mexican and it's just round the corner, but it just looks too tacky to bother with.

Don't siesta - come and fiesta!! :D

Yep, tempting isn't it? Strangely though despite the catchy slogan I can't quite get past the image of waiters in huge sombreros playing tiny guitars. Can't quite see why. :p
