Mexican Food - help needed

roti.jpg

That's a pic of a good West Indian Roti by the way. And yes, it really is that big in comparison to a big old plate. We like that food.

They look funky indeed. Never eaten one, but I've seen 'em and blue corn tortillas chips

They are good.

In the mountains near Toluca you can get blue tortillas with green chorizo and red salsa. It looks (and tastes) incredible.

Although that photo looks a little worrying if I'm honest. Sure it tastes aces, but it looks like someone's sneezed on a massive macrobiological culture. I half expect to see someone with a tete pipette over a petri dish.

Yeah!:D

The first time I saw them I thought it was an old mouldy tortilla. But honestly, they are the best tasting.

they're on the list for tomorrow, cos tomorrow I'll have finished my anti-biotics :D

right, as it looks like I have to mail order tomatillos, and chipolte chillis (and ancho chillis) shall I sack this off till another night? then I can order stuff and acquire a book :D

or shall I make a cheats one and drink those very nice looking beers :D

ok chilango - how do I make that lovely rice that is served with burritos?

Sorry. Dunno. We don't get burritos down here at all. I'd guess some of the following would cooked in the rice:

beef stock
bean juice
tomatoes
cilantro/esapazote
corn
chile

but its just a guess...:(

right, making it up as we go along whilst drinking beer is the order of tomorrow night :D

where is down here anyway? :)

OK, since I am not off to offline tonight, and part of that plan was to go for mexican food - I'm planning on cooking some instead for tomorrow

whatever you end up making make sure you put shit-loads of cilantro, cumin and chiles in it :)

oh, and fresh lime juice also

So did anyone have a Mexican weekend?

I failed :( The snow put me off shopping!

Hoping to remedy things this week. Im off home to Woking and am planning on loving up Mr Mel with some Mexican food!

Nope, but I did pop home to my mum's and have curry and plenty of roti.

I think I've now had curry based dinners (well including a Thai curry and basil stir fry) for the last week now. Must be the cold snap again - I'm actually craving a big pot of chilli now. Must remember to soak a load of beans tonight.

Can I come to your mum for some curry and roti? next time :)

My mum's been away for 3 months and Im missing the fuss and attention.
The boyfriend's mum doesnt do cooking:(

I'll bring dessert :)

I 've still got half a ton of roti in my fridge <YAY!> courtesy of my mother, who'd prefer to make me a joblot's worth than share her secrets.

Surprised any are remaining, but didn't help that, with internet down, we went for a breakfast party down someone's house for Glasto tickets. By 10am, 2 bloody maries and a bottle of vodka down it was clear that the day wasn't going to be anything other drunken. Very pleasant, but eating curry directly after a giant fry up and 6 hours morning drinking is a little too much even for a gannet like me.

Surprisingly enjoyable though. Trudging through snow at 8.30 am on a Sunday in April and getting happily plastered. May repeat this w/e as Sunday Club, only using Tequila and a Mexican theme.

:eek::D

I'm doing a birthday gathering for my BF with a Mexican theme. Only just decided last night but so far I'm planning on:

*huge pot of veggie chilli
*rice
*tortilla bread
*salads
*salsa
*guacamole
*cheese
*sour cream

Will do a bit more searching but planning to put food on a table and everyone can help themselves. anymore suggestions ? What about puddings/cake ?
