Metropolitan Police Commander Ali Dizaei: Bent copper or racist witch-hunt?

I think its rather more that he was done a massive favour by Sir Ian Blair and co (see the previous link to the IPCC report) and has spent most of the time since publicly pissing in their chips, first with his book, then his delayed promotion, and now with this.

Yeah, but how can anybody resist the temptation to piss on Sir Ian "Fred Bassett" Blair's chips, eh? It's just not humanly possible, IMHO! :)

I hope they've got a decent bloody case this time - the last prosecution was an absolute shambles and it was no surprise at all when it fell apart.

If they've done the same again we'd all better start saving for the compensation payment now ... :(

Well, you would think that an organization with such invertebrate tendencies as the CPS would have ensured that this is absolutely watertight before it goes before the Court.

Plus of course its unlikely that the Met will have sabotaged this case in the same way they did the first trial (as mentioned in the IPCC/PCA report).

He's the copper linked to helping that russian millionairess murderer who fled the country after (edit: before) being found guilty of guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice right?

No. The IPCC conducted an enquiry into the Dizaei affair which can be read here, and it is worth reading it in full. In short, the PCA-managed investigation into the now Commander Dizaei was sabotaged, by the Met itself, by way of a private agreement with Dizaei and the MBPA. The Investigating Officer, the PCA and the IPCC (successor to the PCA) all thought there were issues that deserved to go to a misconduct tribunal.

As for this, one imagines they had better have damned good evidence or this (combined with the rather more explainable suspension of DAC Ghaffur) or it will come back to haunt them - Boris is apparently already looking to get rid of the Commissioner and any serious row over this could well give him all the ammunition he needs.

This to me reasds; complete and utter bollocks-up of an investigation and disciplinary proceedings. Am I right?

Thats the one. There was a very good report on the whole sorry case a couple of nights ago. I would guess that if we did not have the current Westminister chaos going on it would have been a far more prominent story.

Am I right?
Yes. Caused by a mixture of incompetence; over enthusiastic professional standards investigations (where officers thought they were above the general law and the ends justified the means) and a bit of cultural ignorance, possibly with a bit of racism thrown in for good measure.

The result of all this was a massive investigation with hugely disproportionate intrusive surveillance which simply could not be justified on the basis of the information known (especially if viewed in the light of Dizaei's cultural background and family links) and which effectively torpedoed the criminal trial when it all came out.

Following that utter fuck up, there was no way second-string disciplinary procedures could be used to dismiss or demote him whereas if they'd been sensible and realistic from the outset, they'd have gone for a very strong disciplinary process (or, at worst, a relatively minor and straightforward criminal charge).

As usual when race raised it's head the Met just fucked it up instead of dealing with the issues calmly, sensibly, robustly but proportionately and within the law / procedures.

Not so much the investigation...
The problems started with the investigatio which just ran out of control.

You can trace it back to the cabal / Star Chamber of senior officers at Professional Standards through the late 90s and early 00s who fucked up innumerable things with their "crusades".

One might add to that the furore over Dizaei's article in Police Review over the whole Pc Hutt thing, which seems to have wound up everyone who read it.

Despite him being mentioned in connection with this on C4 News the other night I can't seem to see him linked on any news reports on the net.

In another article on the Guardian one of the reasons (apparently) he has had so much shit from the 'establishment' is that Mi5 once said he was an Iranian spy.

I really don't know what to think about this bloke if i am honest.

they finally got him.
looks like a bent copper.
who got away with his shit because he was brown skinned and the met looked like a bunch of incompetent racists while trying to do him with a truly bonkers investigation:facepalm:

I urge you to read the IPCC investigation into the original "witch-hunt", which basically found that the Met deliberately (and almost without precedent) sabotaged its own investigation into Dizaei's conduct (to the extent of refusing a request from the old PCA to bring discipline charges) by brokering a peace deal with the MPBA which said that Dizaei would be let off.

No doubt the Dizaei-supporting media will be out in force later, claiming its a fit-up etc etc.
